Tall Bull Powwow

Went to a powwow out at Tall Bull Memorial Grounds this past weekend, took forever to get there because I went with my parents. They kept having to stop for things they forgot, for food, to get gas, to go to the bank, etc.

Then we got lost and finally remembered where it was at and arrived around 9:30 p.m. good thing they were having people camp out there, though we had to sleep in the truck. Saw quite a few vendors that I knew, a few of the dancers that I knew also on Saturday, though they're weren't that many people there I think 11 dancers in all, not counting the gourd dancers that were there in the morning. One of the security guys caught a rattlesnake up by their camp and released it on the outskirts of the property.

They initiated a new gourd dancer in the morning on saturday, he was Cherokee/Lakota, I never saw a lakota that could grow a beard that long, well a Dakota guy I knew could get a pretty full one, but he never grew it out that long. One thing that I thought was funny, I've been spending quite a bit of time in the sun because I'm in my swimming pool like every day this summer because its been so hot.

So one of the dancers, before everything got started, went around introducing himself to everyone. I saw him talking to one of the grammas in Lakota I think, though they were far away so I couldn't quite tell, well when he got to me he shook mine and my parents' hands and then he took a double take at me and said..."Hey that's not fair! He's darker than me man! That ain't right!" ha ha. Oh and one of the traditional dancers is always trying to get me to dance during intertribals, but I'm still just a spectator, and hid behind my sunglasses all day ha ha. Well, I hadn't been to a powwow in a long time, so I'm glad I went to that one even if it was pretty small.
