LOL! I'm sorry for laughing so loud, but I'm an outsider. (Not originally from OK) I have gone to this powwow and Quapaw Powwow and many other smaller powwows aroung Miami. I know the Blaylocks and Tyners and have become good friends with several of their family memeber. There really are some good dancers in those families.

I'm laughing because no matter what powwow you attend in the Miami, OK area, your going to see the same people. And of those same people, you will have mostly the same winners. Just like in many other communities around Indian Country.

So Native Honey49, take a deep breath and relax. When you come from a well known family, you need to get thick skin. Because eveyone else is always looking for ways to bring you down. You can not change other people. You can only change yourself.

My best wishes to Claudia, Caron, David, Jonna, Dude, (gosh now that I try to type some names, I can't even remember them all. It's time to make a trip out there to visit.) LOL

She's right. You will eventually get thick skinned like all powwow people.

I know I don't need to take things to heart, but for the ones that know me and the ones that don't, I am Johnna Blalock. You probly know my situation and what I did a few years back. Something I'm not proud of, but its always going to be there. And that's something I have to learn to deal with on an everyday basis. With that being said my family and I became alot closer than we have ever been. I have a relationship with each one of my family members. Something I never thought I would see happen. I guess that's why I am so protective of them, and as they are with me.

Thank you for sharing your opinions, and thoughts. I am sorry if i took them the wrong way. And like I said before I hope you can accept my apology as well. There are alot of things I still need to learn, some of them I might learn early and others might not come for a long time, but I'm trying. I hope there are no hard feelings between any of us.

Good girl for at least telling us who you are and yes I know what you've had to deal with. It's good you and your family are close once again. I've been in and around this pow-wow circle for 50+ years and have watched, listened and seen alot things. That's how I form opinions. Your family has not always been pow wow people and I can remember when they started. I can't judge anyone but there are those that will. You are you ...therefore You can only speak for yourself and not your entire family. I know you feel like you should but you will only end up being hurt. I have traveled all across the United States and sometimes into other countries but people are all the same. Hold your head up and be kind, honest and good to others....they will respect you for it. Respect is earned. Not everyone earns it and still think they should have it....pray for them. There are those out there that talk about me too but it just rolls off and I go on. I always remember those that say and do bad things toward me and my family in my prayers each day. In the way we spoke years ago....the "almighty" will take care of things for us. Talk to him about it and then let it go. God bless you and walk with you always. In my prayers you will be.

Peoria Pow wow

There are things that happened that were good.

I enjoy the hand games on Friday night! So much old fashioned fun! Hearing the song get faster and faster as I was TRYING to win a point or two! So much laughter and friendliness. Watching the local people include those who had traveled very far warmed my heart.

The best darn frybread!

Stompdance comp. was very hard. I know the women really danced hard. One person with me who does not stompdance said that she understands it better now, after watching the comp., that there is a lot more to it than she thought. So she now has a better appreciation of it.

Being an unknown person last year, returning this year and still some people remembered me and were so nice.

Small pow wow committee who all work real hard. We all know how hard it is to put on a pow wow. It is physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. And then here come the people with their considerations and their judgements and their pride. Gosh it sure is hard. We human beings are that way. Makes it hard to get along. That's why I always try to say thank you to the people who put it on, maybe my kind words might give them back some energy.

I noticed that not everyone who placed were local. I noticed that a few people who had traveled very far to be there, placed. I know it meant a lot to them, that they were very happy.

One lady said to me that the prayers that were said at the pow wow were so wonderful, they touched her heart, and that she would carry those words with her all the way back home, many miles.

Personally, I had only one bad thing happen:

Did I compete? No. A "friend" said something ugly to me just before GE, and I was too furious and offended to be any good to myself or anybody else. So that is something I have to work on: not let ugly words affect me.

Im sorry to hear that happened to u stomp. Yeah, you shouldn't let someone' else acting all stink bring u down. As for my previous post on here, I just want to state that even though i have seen some craziness out this ways, that Im not saying that it happend at THIS particular powwow. Like I said I didn't even go back sun. sooo I dunno who won. Sooo I hope people on here don't take what I said to mean that Im attacking this dance, or commitee. I have seen things at some dances out this wayz like people winning who didn't meet certain requirements, such as when u are supposed to make G.E. or exhibitions. I've seen people Not meeting these requirements and still place over other contestants that did make G.E. or Ex. It's things like that when Im referring to "unfairness" and I think most peeps would agree with me on that one. But its true, that things like that probably happen all over and it's NOT just this area. Just depends on how the dance is ran. I think this thread has REALLY gotten out of hand and some really hurtful things have been said on here, and I hope that I haven't hurt anyone in the process. If i did, then Im sorry. I do know that the commitee that put on this dance does work very hard a quite a few dances. I always get a kick outta them at copan, they sell raffle tickets and love to make people laugh. I still laugh when I think about them "chicken hats" ..LOL

You can hide behind ur screen name, and cry all u want about powwows...that just shows your ignorance. And if shafting dancers who they dont know or like is regular policy, then tell me how come i didnt place last year at the same powwow? u should know it all depends on the judges. So for the men contests i believe the judges were Kyle Roubedeux, Awkie Hamilton, and some other well known good guys. So why dont you complain about them instead of the dancers cuz it makes u sound like an azz!!
Where? Around here?? As for you being embarrassed, guys that you know said you were a little embarrassed and I heard them talking. I don't know you and even I thought you were a Blalock until this pow wow. Maybe this explains some things
