The drum contest results were.....
1st - Meskwaki Nation 2nd - Battle River 3rd - Thunder Hills (ex-Sizzortail guys) 4th - The Tribe Some non placing drums - Southern Boys, Cozad, Eagle Feather, Whitetail, Wazi Chaci, Bear Heart, Young Bucks, Meswaki Travellers, Standing Eagle, Bald Eagle etc. Host drums Sizzortail and Bear Creek. 20 drums in total I think. Good singing all weekend. |

This was a good powwow! It stormed Friday night, so they only had time for junior, teen, and golden age contests and adult exhibitions, but they got us out of there before the rain hit. The powwow grounds were soaked on Saturday, with more rain the forecast, so they moved it to the expocenter in Topeka. I'm so glad they did that because it was nice to dance inside and not in the mud all weekend.
There was good singing all weekend and there were ALOT of good dancers there in every category. I'll try and remember the adult winners, but I didn't write them down, so I may forget some, or get the order wrong in some of them. Men's grass 1 - Julius Not Afraid 2 - Rusty Gillette 3 - Terrence Goodwill 4 - Lakota Clairmont Men's Fancy 1 - Spike Draper 2 - Joe Bointy 3 - Wayne Silas Jr. 4 - Jerry Cleveland Jr. Men's N. Traditional 1 - Terry Fiddler I don't know the order of the rest of them, but I remember seeing Pat Moore, Dana Warrington and Gabe Cleveland in the winners line. I know there was a mix-up and they called Terry's number and someone else's name for 1st place. Men's Southern, I can't remember any of them. I know Terry Tsotigh and Wakeen Hamilton were there, but I don't remember anyone else. Women's Jingle 1 - Yvette Ewalk 2 - Rebecca Roberts 3 - Danya Keahna 4 - Willow Jack Willow got sick and had to leave the powwow on Sunday, so she missed her contest. She still had enough points to get 4th. Women's Fancy 1 - Carol Melting Tallow 2 - Amber Cleveland 3 - Tawny Hale 4 - Nahmi Lasley Women's N. Traditional 1 - Jodi Gillette 2 - Tosha Goodwill 3 - Kelli Downwind 4 - Amber Old Horn Women's Southern Buckskin and Cloth 1 - Tonya Moore I can't remember what order they were in, but I know Delaine Snowball and Keri Myers got 2nd and 3rd 4 - Danita Goodwill Men's Golden Age, I don't remember any of the winners except first, which was Wayne Pushetonequa (I think!). Women's Golden Age 1 - Carmen Clairmont 2 - Charlene Cozad I know Anna Mae Pushetonequa placed, but I don't remember if it was 3rd or 4th. I don't remember the other dancer, might have been Mabel Cozad. They had several men's and women's fancy dance specials over the weekend. Winner Take-All Men's Fancy - Jerry Cleveland Jr. Women's Fancy - Amber Cleveland Tanksi Clairmont Women's Fancy Special 1 - Rose Track 2 - Shelley Bointy 3 - Nahmi Lasley 4 - Amber Cleveland Michael Roberts 40 years and over Men's Fancy 3 finalists split the money Joe Bointy, Tom Snowball, and Boye Ladd The powwow was alot of fun and I was very glad that the committee took good care of the dancers by moving the powwow indoors Saturday and Sunday. If I think of any more of the winners I'll post them. |
