Contact: Barry Richardson-Pow-Wow President (252) 257-5383 (e-mail: powwow@vance.net) FAYETTEVILLE, NC POW-WOW SEEKING THE BEST OF NATIVE AMERICAN VOICES! Hollister, NC- Pow-Wow, an American Indian owned and operated company, will sponsor the Fayetteville, NC American Indian Pow-Wow and Show at the Cumberland County Arena on October 7-9, 2005. Working in cooperation with the Cumberland County Association for Indian People and the NC Arts Council, the pow-wow is an opportunity for the public to interact with American Indian dancers, singers, drummers, artists and craftspersons. This event is an attempt by Pow-Wow to educate the public about American Indians, past/present, through the arts. Pow-Wow is seeking the “Best of Native American Voices”! and will sponsor a singing contest on October 7th and 8th at the Arena. for American Indians that are at least 16 years of age residing in North Carolina. The contest will offer prize money plus other potential opportunities for the winners. Deadline for applicants is August 1, 2005. The first round of competitions for the Best of Native American Voices will take place on Friday, October 7, 2005 at 8:00PM in the Arena. The second and final round of competitions will take place on Saturday October 8th at 8:00PM. Over $10,000 offered in dance, drum and singing prizes. Gates open at 9:00AM on Friday for a cultural exchange between American Indians and local schools. The Pow-Wow will kick off with a parade of nations (grand entry) at 6:00PM on Friday. The public will be able to visit with craft demonstrators and a large contingent of Native American Dancers. An American Indian Flutist will be at the Pow-Wow daily. Face painting will be available for children and others. Also, a tipi will be set up for the public. Arnold Richardson (Haliwa-Saponi) of Hollister will serve as MC. Keith Colston (Tuscarora-Lumbee) of Baltimore and Sharon Harris (Haliwa-Saponi) of Warrenton will serve as head dancers. Members of the Haliwa-Saponi, Coharie, Chickahominy, Cherokee, Sioux, Iroquois, Lumbee, and Navajo are a few of the Tribes that will participate in this year’s event. The public will be able to purchase some of the finest Native American crafts available. Items for sale include turquoise jewelry, moccasins, beadwork, rugs, books, paintings and dreamcatchers to name a few. Buffalo stew, fried bread, Indian corn soup and buffalo burgers are just a few of the Native American food items that will be on sale at the event. Admission to the Pow-Wow is as follows: Ages 3-12: $4:00 Ages 13-up: $7.00. This is a rain or shine event. Showtimes are: Friday-9AM-11PM Saturday-11:00AM-11:00PM and Sunday-11:00AM-6:00PM. Glad to see this is going to be more then a one day event once again.. Maybe this pow-wow can come back and be what it once was eventually.. We hope to be able to come and support this event.

Dancing? Singing? Or both.. For the most part it's like any other pow-wow I guess.. What kind of specific rules are you asking about?
