Ok, this is just something I was thinking about and I wanted to get some ideas.
I think of myself just as much a Hoop dancer as I do a Fancy Shawl Dancer, if not more. Now I was wondering about Hoop Dancing for an entire session at powwow. Just dance with about 1 hoop not like an entire routine every song or anything like that. In hoop dancing regalia so, aprons and side drops and so on. Now I've been asked to be Head Woman Dancer at powwow next year and I was comtemplating hoop dancing for a session. ..so that would mean no shawl . .no skirt. ..but aprons. I know at the Eastern Hoop Dancing Championships they do a grand entry where hoop dancers. ..well. ..hoop dance So I ask you all to let me know your opinions Thanx Hoopster Girl

Hoopster G, I know a little bit about this subject of hoopin'. There is no rule that states a head dancer has to be dressed in one style of dance regalia unless she is specifically asked to do so. I have seen powwows where they have a Head Shawl Dancer, Head Woman jingle dancer etc. However there has NEVER been a head woman hoop dancer at a powwow. There has been featured hoop dancers during the powwow program. I have been head dancer where I have danced in three different styles before on different days. I hoop dance but never contemplated hoopin' for an entire session. When Schemitzun and Hinkley used to have their hoop dance contests, I have grand entried with other hoop dancers in hoop dance regalia, like you have described. I know the stamina it takes to hoop dance. Are you talking about actually doing the hoop dance during each intertribal song or just dancing with a hoop in hand?

Kinda hoop in hand and possibly a few simple tricks. ..nothing nobody hasn't seen before (unless they've never seen a hoop dancer)
I wouldn't exactly place my 23 hoops out for every intertribal this help? Hoopster G
