2005 Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Powwow - August 5-7 - Page 2

August 5, 6, 7, 2005 ... don't have the details or head staff info, but the new ceremonial planning committee twisted my arm enough to accept their offer to provide sound support for the amphitheater and for the west arena (powwow area).

In the coming days, I will find out who is on deck for head staff.

1. Allow local food vendors in the immediate area.
2. Spotlight dance for certain categories, not all.
3. If the website, does not have a guestbook, or private feedback link, it should. Use the feedback, to make changes.
4. Definitely, a different MC. Some one local, like Bowen. He's good.
5. Sponsor a "fun, no nonsense" contest, like the potato dance or a switch dance.
6. Hand drum contest
7. Some shade for visitors & spectators. Arbor style? Is it too much to ask?

I haven't talked with the coordinator yet, but I will relay these and other suggestions that have been made in this thread. Thanx for your input.

Haven't been to this powwow in yeeeeaaarz, don't know if it's on our list to go to, when was Crow Fair? or Ft. Hall?

You really have no other excuse not to go to Ceremonial, unless you are willing to drive to Rocky Boy, MT. Crow Fair and Ft. Hall are coming up in the following weekends. Besides, Gallup is only a few hours drive from Flagstaff.

It's now back to 2-1/2 days (Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon), however, the session on Sunday will end earlier than the last two years.

There will be separate Northern and Southern singing contests (3 places each).

Head Man, Head Lady, and Head Gourd will be selected each session.

Spotlight Contests will be for Mens Fancy and Womens Fancy Shawl.

Mens Chicken Dance contest has been added as a new category.

The 84th Annual Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial is two weeks away! The contest powwow starts on Friday, August 5th, and ends on Sunday, August 7th.

I haven't been able to confirm the status of the MC, but hopefully, the committee has been able to get a good one.
