Gathering of Nations tips

We're heading out to the Gathering of Nations pow wow for the first time this April. Does anyone have any tips for this dance such as hotels and tickets? Also, we're flying so does anyone have tips on the best way to fly with outfits? Thanks

The only tip I have is "stay home and do something else".

carry on as much of your outfit as you can! one time i flew in for a powwow and my luggage got lost, good thing i got there 2 days early, my stuff arrived at my hotel room the night before grand entry!

I would be careful not to carry on anything they might consider a "weapon" -- i.e. spears, tomahawks, clubs, knives, etc. -- but I'm sure you thought of that already. Also be prepared for them to go through your stuff -- feathers, etc. Bring any info you think they might ask for (tribal cards, CIBs, whatever). Sometimes they get picky about the dumbest things. I almost had my hairstick confiscated in Albuquerque because it wasn't round -- they said it looked like something from a bayonet that was beaded -- Jeezus!!! It wasn't even that big *imagines hair with bayonet tip in it* I finally got on but it was a major ordeal and I since put it away and then lost it -- go figure. Anyway, good luck!

Yeah if your flying, definitely carry your regalia on tha plane with you- if possible. Get to the powwow early.. and yeah I dunno, too much stuff to say! LoL

Hey you can't forget the DT (Duct Tape) too, ya nver know...

I too am a GON Virgin, but I was going to travel Thurs night and campout for the weekend. Does anyone have any tips for camp sites? Info would be nice too. Oh yeah I'm coming from Phx.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess we'll go ahead and book our rooms and get our tickets sometime this week.

What is the food situation like? Good vendors? Cheap or expensive? Can you take snacks and drinks in or do you have to buy there? What about the restroom facilities? Are there changing rooms inside or do you guys dress in the van or parking lot?

Paul, are you heading out this year?
