Weird Fancy Shawl Special

I was looking at another chat group I belong to called Powwow.bc and they are having a Women's Fancy Shawl in Vancouver on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The Special is having a duck and dive. Is it just me or this weird.

I'm sorry, what is a duck and dive? I've never heard of it before and why would it be wierd that there is a duck and dive for a fancy shawl?

From what I know that is a men's special war dance that was used to avoid bullets/arrows from the enemies. It looks really cool to see tradish men move that thing!

Women gained the right to vote, gained a bit more equality in pay and education and now they want the Duck and Dive. When is enough enough?

Someone told me about some powwow in MT where they gave fancy shawl a duck and dive for their contest...sounds crazy but it might be cool

lol...well im all for womens rights in todays society however some things are just mens and just womens that should stay that way ennit?

I dont think you'll ever see a guy wear plumes like a female does. Some stuff should remain guy stuff and girl stuff.

Duck and Dive for fancy shawl eh? I don't know but I bet the fancy shawl ladies could come up with some wicked moves for that beat!
I agree though, there's nothing like watching those men's tradish shake it to those songs!!! Yummmmm....is all I can say when I see that!.....lol
Better practice up ladies. It won't be long before it makes its way over here (Ontario, Mid-West, E. Coast) It didn't take long for us women's tradish to get those double beats this way. Heck, we might as well start practicing too eh?.....lol

Thanks for the replies peoples. I was worried that I was the only person who thought that was a weird special. Would be different to see though. The winners get 3,2,100.00. Have to be there for both days of the powwow. Its in the East End of Vancouver at the Vancouver Aboriginal Centre. MOTS' stompin ground. I believe she lives in that direction eh MOTS.
