Here is my opinion: Points should be deducted for missing singers. Its not fair to drums who have all their singers present and then have another drum missing singers just because he couldnt control himself at the Roxy or any other bar.
Singing ability for sure should be priority #1 when judging a contest; but you also gotta consider the other side of a pow wow and that is being responsible. Dancers go through it and the same should be said for singers. I dont know....I just think you should make roll call, its a part of the singing contest and has been for years and years. Anyways...... |

The reasons I think that Northern Cree did not take the powwow was
a) ROLE CALL POINTS - sorry boys but y'all have been in this game along time and KNOW that role call points are taken. That is no ones fault but your own and b) Poor Ballots - there is no way that any of those drums should be anywhere close to Northern Cree. And if they are then I feel theres a problem with the ballots. When you are handing out 5,000 dollars and drums are travelling from throughout North America the ballots should be more technical than five categories with a 7 as the highest number in each category. (Not saying this is the exact ballot from Toronto) Thats my two cents on the subject. |

Bottom line is.............. rules vary from powwow to powwow. Ya can't change the rules once you're at that powwow. You either adhere or you miss out.

I'm guilty of missing role call...and it was because I was getting ready (hair can be sooo crazy sometimes). I realize now that I cant do both, so next year I'll just be singing OR dancing...for those of you who can...do it responsibly and dont go around whining about how they shouldn't deduct points for dancers...because your the one who wanted to do both....
Just my opinion...please dont kill me. LOL

Not cool
I cannot believe Northern Cree got 5th?!?! What the hell?! I wasn't even there and I'm outraged! *L*
All I wanted to say is that Northern Cree ROCKS! I have yet to hear a drum who really moves your soul when they sing. These guys got what it takes and put their hearts into EVERY song - judged or not. I know, I know - drums shouldn't win based on popularity. But Northern Cree is in a class all on their own! And I don't even think they know it! They just do what they do and it's DOPE. Congrats to all the drums at Skydome, those who placed and those who didn't. It takes a lot to sing at pow-wows. But, in the end, I'm still disappointed with Northern Cree getting 5th. That sucks. |

I have to BIT** to!.....lol j/k
Yeah, yeah, Northern Cree took 5th. They were sounding tight, everybody who was there knows that. The other drums that placed sounded good too. I guess this just goes to show, you win some, you lose some. There's nothing anybody can do about it so there's no sense in trying to start a revolution!......lmao I do have to comment about that Roxy Blue place though. I stayed outside most of the time, just like everybody else. Overflowing toilets and rusty pipes leaking into my drink just don't go hand in hand!....lol The music was cool though, it was just the location that sucked. Other than that CONGRATS to all the winners! It was nice dancing with all of those beautiful women's traditional dancers. A special CONGRATS to the winners representin' our category. |

Roxy Blu
Quote:
This was onevibeentertainments.com (Marks) first time doing anything in that klub or for a pow-wow after party...so he did not know what the klub itself would of been like nor how this night would of turned out. I must say it was a good turn out. Glad u guys/gals enjoyed the music as much as I did. We are lookin at a better/bigger klub downtown in the entertainment district for next year - cause us ndns deserve the best too & dont need to turn people away!! Since there was alot of requests from hiphop performers, emcees etc to perform at RoxyBlu...we are lookin at having it live hiphop/klub next year with two floors and more staff. This was the first time ever doing anything like this. Its nice to try different things once n awhile! So for next year...its something to look forward too! SOME F.Y.I: www.onevibeentertainment.com is hosting a CD Release Party this Friday at La Rouge (same place as music award after party) for Tu Pacs "Loyal to the Game" new cd. I'll shut up now *L* --- Back to the POW WOW TALK! SSS ---- Joni
