Checotah winners list is SUSPECT
Heard from one of the winners that this pow wow sucked. The Head Staff and Drums were okay but eveything else was awful. First of all, there were ties in almost all the dance categories. Doesn't that seem strange? Heard the contest tabulators didn't know what they were doing, the dance judges sucked (some but not all) because they didn't know the difference between good dancing and mediocre dancing. Some of the contestants that danced in the tie breakers didn't even place when they should have. For instance, Amber Old Horn and Yvonne Sadongie had to dance off. When they called the winners, Sandy Tate got third, Tookie's mother got second, and Amber got first. Now what happened to Yvonne? Guess she danced for nothing and that's exactly what she got, NOTHING! She was invisible out there dancing her heart out. Heard that also happened to B.J. Haury. There were four dancers dancing off, one left the arena, leaving three (Lonnie Street, Cricket Shields and B.J.). The winning results were Lonnie got first, Lance All Runner (?) got second, and Cricket got third. Now how could a dancer who wasn't even in the dance off get second? Now again, what happened to B.J.? Guess he also danced for nothing. Same thing happened in the Jr. Girls division, Sandy Tate's daughter had a dance off with Bridgette Black Owl, results were Ann Spotted (?) got third, Liz got second, and some young lady who also wasn't in the dance off got first. What happened to Bridgette? When the dancers went to check their points they were refused. They were told they were protesting and must pay the $400 fee. Was told B.J. got lucky and was shown his points. He found out that he actually placed second. Some of the people up at the announcer's stand actually saw his points. The committee refused to acknowledge his valid claim. The dancers even offered to pay the $400 fee so they could look at the books but were refused. Now why go through the motions of putting that in the rules when they weren't going to honor it? Sounds like they were hiding something to me. Oh yes, heard also that the some of the women's cloth contest judges sheets blew away while they were being tabulated so they couldn't really figure out who the finalists were. Don't know if this was before or after they called out the six dancers who supposedly made the finals. The committee should have listened to the dancers' legitimate concerns instead of refusing to even discuss anything with them. They could have at least checked the points for those dancers involved in the tie breakers who also didn't place. Heard there were quite a few wanting to see the books. A lot of dancers were royally screwed!!. Glad I didn't waste my time and money going to that rip off pow wow. As for the winners, didn't get a list.

I didn't make it either, but I heard the same thing about the bad tabulators and bunches of ties.
My contact said that B.J. was shown his points and he was suppose to place 2nd. But the committee just told him it was too late and the money was allready given out. I never heard what drums were there...... |
