Question? Payer song at Powwows
I need some clarity from you good people.
Do you think it is proper for a person how has an affliction (or thinks they do) to PERSONALLY go and ask for a drum to do a PRAYER SONG for them? I mean should it be done at a powwow? or my understanding is that said persons family or a close friend should be the ones to request such a thing, should they not? The reason being as how a woman I know well did this last week and some peeps came to me afterward to voice their concerns over her asking of this personally. I myself do not think she should have done so and would have told her so before she went and asked the singers to do this for her. My reasoning: It would appear she was digging for sympathy or to be noticed. This Gal does have imature nature unfotunately. I should add that the same nite this happened after the powwow I attended a sweat and brought her Eagle feather to have it blessed. All she asked afterward " Where's my feather?' No thank you or even any questions on what she should do and how was best to take care of it now that it had been blessed. (let me say here that I have undertaken the Sundance 3 times and next year shall complte my vow . I would like to hear what others may think, as how I am feeling some concern on how she appears to not care on how things are done in a proper and traditional manner and seems to care about her image at powwows. She is new to it having only been dancing 2 years. Thanks All Last edited by Doomonu; 10-08-2004 at 11:33 AM. |
