Hey people,
Now I know how rumors get started and all, but I heard that Iwasil didn't have all of their prize money. I didn't go so for those that did.....is this true? |

That's what I heard too, that first place dance winners was 1000.00 but they only got paid 500.00 and so on. I heard that the committee person had a casino check and he was supposed to have it by Monday to pay out more but I haven't heard anything else.

That is the truth, they didn't have all the money.. said they would send the rest in a check.......The whole weeknd was kinda weird... it was a good powwow in the dancer and singers view.... good dancing and singing.... but at the door just checking everyones bags and stuff crazy.. prices jacked up on the food and stuff, parking.... just all that money you had to pay....they didnt feed the singers and dancers... but enough complaining, I had a good time.....

Too bad cuz it sounded like it was going to be a cool powwow. Hopefully people will get their $$$ but I also hope that they let us know if they don't get it so we can be leary of the organizers of Iwasil and future powwows.

Wow! That's too bad. We had a birthday dinner at my home last night and one of our friends said they had called up there and the drums received half in cash and half in check which they cashed Monday, so that particular drum did receive their money it just took one day longer.
Kinder was a good pow wow. You only had to pay $5 dollars to register and the parking and admission was free. They fed the dancers and singers on Saturday and had free water for them. It was only two days and they had all the money, in cash, at payout time. The drum contest was small, only two southern drums showed and their were 4 places in the drum contests plus day money. So, next year Kinder might be the place to go. The payout on dancing was 1200, 800 600 and 400. Northern and southern fancy were separate, as well as Northern Men's Original and contemporary. So, this was a good dancing and singing pow wow. We didn't get searched either. ha ha That's crazy, what are they searching indians for anyways? |

Where is Kinder? Just asking cause my grandkids just joined the powwow circle but I'm still getting their outfits together, they'll come full circle during the Wapato Longhouse Christmas Celebration, December 24-26, 2004 @ Wapato, Washington. PS they feed the people there and the christmas tree time is fun, christmas caroling takes place too, but people don't check your bags or charge fees like I heard about iwasil......

yeah.....wassup with the money? Jeesh and I am down here in the southern area where the navajo nation is getting all the bad reps for not paying their payouts, etc. *S* and we're suppose to trust our brothers and sisters who put on these powwows. Ohhhhhhhhhh well, guess we'll have to wait. I just hope the money is in the bank not like some other unmentionable powwows down here.........LOL.
SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!! SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!! .....LOL

I was reading stuff about pow-wows being held indoors, and I am led to believe this IWASIL was indoors as well. If so, people this is the world we live in today, security plays a big role these days.
No we don't think an Indian is going to do something crazy, BUT someone dumbs$$$ will. It just takes one time and then all the second guessers will come out. Better to be safe than sorry. The lack of payouts are totally different. |

gawsh, i was a volunteer, i was helping out at the front door passing out "bracelets"....man it was crazy madness up in there.
1)had to pay $6 parking (daily) 2)$12 admission fee for children 3+ 3)bag check at the door (even diaper bags) 4)had to wear this weak bracelet ALL WEEKEND to get back in "if you dont have your pass or a bracelet you cant come in" and i dont even know if they charged for registration or not... but all in all, the powwow itself was really good, especially on saturday when they honored the coastal people and carried in a big canoe during grand entry, oh and the "spotlight fancydance" special w/ northern fancy vs. southern fancy

i wonder what they paid to rent that bulilding. i know some pw's charge admission to help make back the money they spent renting the building... i thought it was good, the rally thingy was kinda crazy but for 150pts, how could you say no. Singing was good dancing was good. I thought it was a cool time...but, the payout thing was kinda crazy... guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens... *shrugs shoulders*
the security thing too, i think since the building was probably owned by the city that they had to have security and it might have been the owners of the buildings policy to have security posted and have the searches and stuff going on... I don't know for sure, i was not on the committee or anything but, just trying to make sense of it all.... :D
