My goodness...where have you been the last 20 years? Haystack is from Rocky Boy Montana and Jonathon WindyBoy is the lead singer!!!!!!
They have only been hosting since well, as long as I have been going up north and that was 20 years ago. They have hosted Schemitzen, Tribes, invited at Gathering, Red Earth, They have been an invited drum at practically every major pow wow, contest and traditional, for several years. Where do they get their name? Their is a mountain, a hill to some but it looks like a mountain to an Okie like me, that is used for ceremonial fasts, etc and it is on the Rocky Boy Reservation. The name of that hill is Haystack, thus the Haystack Singers.

Haystack when crewed up has an awesome sound. Original, "old school" style. Check out one of their live CD's from like 5 years ago. It is a must in my collection.

PPride,

I just received an email from the Checotah Powwow Committee. $1200 across the board! Wow! That's good money.

There are no special dance contests or drum contest at the Nashville Powwow. However, they did add a special "Chicken Dance Category" this year.
__

I just received a supplimental flier from the Nashville NAIA Powwow Committee. It seems the Nashville powwow has been recognized with two national distinctions:

1. The NAIA Powwow has been named as "One of America's Top 16 Powwows" by Native Peoples magazine (July/August issue).

2. The NAIA Powwow is credited by the National Geographic Magazine (September 2004 issue) as one of the top "Major Indian Festivals and Powwows in America!"

____

This will be my third year to attend the NAIA Powwow in Nashville. It is well attended and a lot of top dancers compete there.
