Ok here's my question...
I'm just finishing up my baby boy's first grass dance outfit. (He's 15 months old.) I have to say it's really cute-- right down to the little mocs... but he absolutely, positively REFUSES to wear anything on his head. I know that no one is going to kick a tiny tot out for not having his roach on, but still... I'd at least like to coax him into wearing the little beaded headband I made for him. Anybody have any ideas on how to make this work... Half the time he won't even let me put his hair in a little top knot... and it's getting long and hanging in his eyes. I have to slick it back with styling gel. LOL I refuse to cut it, though. Absolutely refuse. Any of you hate to wear stuff on your heads when you were little? How did your folks make it work? Or if you have kids now, how do you handle it? Thanks in advance. Sara |

My kid flat out refused to wear clothes at that age. I had to learn to choose my battles and became content when he just kept the diaper on. I suggest that you do the same - don't alienate him from his regalia from the get go make it a fun experiance and soon enough once everyone starts oooowwwing and awwwing over him he'll realize how cute he is and the attention he ois getting. After a while you'll be waiting for him to fall asleep at night just so you can get it off. Bottom line let him have fun and he will eventually give in. Dancing is supposed to be a positive experiance not one that sends you to a shrink when your thirty.

boys and clothes
All in good time, my guy was the same, I made him his first outfit at the same age and he is now 3 and 1/2, and just this past summer he has started wearing his headband, we are going to attempt the roach this week end, but if he does not like it, no biggy, that thing will fit him until he is ten probably! I am with krazy dazy on this one, choose your battles, I think if I had of pushed my son to wear his outfit (grass dancer as well) he maybe would not like it now, I just put it on him when he wanted to , so it became something he could decide on his own if he wants to do. Plus, I find if I dance he will usually follow and dance too.

Funny thing about kids this age....You can't make them do anything. Just keep asking and trying. When he gets a little older he will realize he is different, and BAM, he will want the roach and everything. The other thing too is get ready to tie it on, then take it off, then tie it on, then take it off, then tie it on, then take it off. My boys would complain about how tight it was, now they don't say anything.
I have 3 boys and one girl. I use to buy the cutest hats for my little girl. And she never wore them. Pulled them off as soon as I put them on. Now she will wear cute hair bows, hats, jewelry, etc. |

Thanks...
Nya:weh for the advice, ladies.
I'm not the least bit worried about him wearing all the rest of his outfit. It's mostly just something on his head. I know he'll love to go out there and shake his little stuff. LOL But I'm going to have to do something about the hair-- regardless of whether I end up being able to put his headband on or whatever. Oh well... I'll take y'all's advice and quit worrying about it. And I'm sure I'll be back on here to post a picture or two once that first powwow is over. :o) |

I know what you mean, a kid doesnt like anything on its head. But I herd sombody say that if your child sees somthing you do( that he usually does not want to do), he will find interest. I would have someone wear the roach with the child around.
