candy titus and her family put on a woman back up contest this year. it was coooool she had all the back up go out to the middle of the arena and sing a song with pipestone all at the same time. they chose the winners from there. i guess they were also judging all weekend with secret ballets. :24:

I havent' been up there for a long time.
Do any of the original Snake River Singers (Gould Family) still sing? Does' Phillip Kiyou still fancy dance?

Yeah, not as many people (dancers) this year. I don't know about the dance judges....they picked too many Local people from the local area. The M.C. from Oklahoma was kool...made the crowd laff...M. Hotaine... yeah, I thought Buck Spotted Tail shoulda got in there. he was tearin' it up....next time....
Drum contest was kinda funny. They made the contest drums sing two verses each sunday night cause someone messed up the ballots...what tha?.........don't know what happened there. Anyway, the dance floor was nice...no dust and the muzic was good.

Snake River Singers??
Did I hear right? the snake river singers? Wow!!! it has been a long time since I seen them guys, Verlin and Vidella, does anyone know if they still sing? or where they are at? Geez, back in the day, Vidella could tear up the hand drum singing.

From what I heard there was a discrepancy in the drum judging so they had to start all over. I think that is cool the committee took the time to assure that the judging was done as fair as possible. Most peeps wouldnt have taken the time to do so (?)
Vidella...Drucella...Dondie....Candi....Rowanna... .Joella...they all have beautiful voices. Quote:

singing contest...
As for the singing contest... This is what I heard. Some of the lead singers protested a singing contest judge that was associated with some of the other singing groups and asked the committee to look into the matter. The committee discussed the issue and meet with the lead singers. Everyone came to a compromise to void this particular judge's ballot (across the board). When the ballots were voided and everything was researched a lil bit more, they (committee) found that six drums would be one ballot short and behind in points. The lead singers discussed the matter along with the committee and agreed to be rejudged and sing two verses. The committe wanted the singing contest to be fair and was willing to work with everyone to be fair across the board.

Snake river...
As for snake river singers... The original members are still around. They sing every once in awhile (locally) or sing with some of the local singing groups in Ft. Hall.
As for verlon, I heard he's been traveling with Indian Nation for the summer and is still sumwhere on the p/w trail with them. As for Vidella she hasn't been traveling much (working & being a wife and mom). She only kicks it once in awhile as a back up singer. I haven't seen her sit at the drum for a long time now and every once in awhile will sing hand drum with her sisters. As for the others they still sing and p/w around. |
