I know schemitzhun has my family making their way over slowly...one powwow at a time....last time i hear they're in canada...then they're going to finally end up in conneticut.
some of my other family - who aren't as go-hard...they got their tickets already n' are gonna fly over. The singing is going to be OUTSTANDING!!!! |

what i mean is that it hasnt been all that. not as fun. like i heard of things happening that were, well, bad. plus it has been smaller. For example they once had a mega tron which help out alot to people who were in the back. |

if all those drums show up for schemitzun, it will be great. there were years where there weren't too many drums. Hopefully this year will be kicking if at least half of the invited drums show.
i am going - had hotel reservations for over a month. staying at a b&b near there. a friend of mine is coming down from Syracuse and a friend is coming from Arizona. |

Yup, there is going to be some awesome soundz! Wish I was going.
I think people think it got smaller cuz the prize money got smaller for a while. But if you ask around people always put Schemitzhun in the top 5 powwows. It's one of those pws that everyone tries to go to at least once, so they can say they have been there. |

I've Been Going To Schemitzun Since 2000 And It Is My Favourite Pow-wow To Go To ............i Donno About The Big Drop In The Money Though?........and I Was Wondering If The Pow-wow Committee Was Having The Kyle Dowdy Sr. Memorial Smokedance Singing Special This Year .........cause I Thought They Announced In (2002) That This Special Would Be A Annual Event On The Thursday Of Schemitzun !

Bahnisian, The truth of the matter concerning invited drums. . . In years past, each invited drum was given gas money to get there. Some years they even gave the invited drums two rooms at the Pequot owned Two Trees Hotel. It was during those years that their were a lot of drums in attendance. This year, for some reason, no gas money OR paid for-rooms are being extended to the invited drums. I have heard plenty of the invited drums saying they can't make it to Schemitzun for this reason. Gas is high these days (not to mention rooms, food etc.) Whenever our drum is invited to any powwow and put on a poster we get compensated with gas money and hotel rooms. This is the standard of what we are used to. Basically, all that is being offered to the long and impressive list of invited drums at Schemitzun is . . . an invitation to compete for Big Prize Money. ____ I like Schmitzun and would love to go. I normally fly. But because of this policy it is not economically affordable.

We are going to head down for Friday and maybe saturday, because i live within 3 hours. Unless of course, there is a spot to set up a tent!!!(too cheap to splurge on hotel accomodations) I am bringing the camping gear Just in case. most peeps says you gotta go to Schemitzun, but others in the AREA says Its to commercial.. Guess I Just gotta go with the flow, and see what the weather brings.

I can't wait to see the turn out myself. Last I heard there was 70 or so drums that called in-but how many will actually attend? It is pricey if you're not guaranteed anything. My hubby & I checked out the northern list and just off the top of our heads there was 17 drums we knew would definitely be in the top what is it?, 5 places with only 3 consolations? :Thinking I think it'd be worth it if there was a split between Northern Contemp & Original, but oh well, it will be good listening either way :) Southern definitely has it easier. Better get our tape recorders out and make my homage to Wal Mart for tapes....it's gonna be a looong weekend!!!! :Crazy

The last time we went to this pow wow was in 2002. I thought it was good that year because the $$$ breakdown in all the adult/golden age categories was only separated by $200. This year, like in last year's pow wow, I don't particularly like the big drop between 1st place and 2nd place. That's why we decided not to attend last year. And I heard via the Indian grape vine that one of the people that are on the committee said that the Golden Age categories are really going to be combined this year. I guess they had a big to do about that last year. They were trying this year to convince the people with the $$$ to split the categories, but to no avail. I've also heard a lot of people complaining about all the money going to the drums. Guess they'll just have a lot of drums and hardly any dancers. Give me the good old days when they really put on a good pow wow. And another thing I've noticed over the past few years, they keep cutting back the women's categories and adding more to the men's. Guess we won't be going this year either because of the factors I've griped about. Oh well, guess I'll save my money and wait and see what next year's flyer will look like.
