Aamjiwnaang Correction
On behalf of the pow wow committee we would like to correct an error that was made during tabulation.
Mens fancy: 1st place Wesley Cleland 2nd place Sam Lefthand (there was a miss calucation in points) We apologize to Wes and Sam for the mixup. Womens traditonal: 1st Bernadette Shawanda 2nd Dawn Mahdabee 3rd Melissa Montoya 4th Crystal Recollect. (We apologize for the mix up, the dance off in womens traditional was for 4th place not first.) Again we apologize to those dancers for this. It was human error and we just wanted to straighten it out. :agree?: We would like to thank all those whom attended our pow wow this year. It was a beautiful weekend with beautiful dancers. Thank you for visiting our community. :supperhap |

big disappointment
Oh good someone from the committee. I just wanted to air my opinion that this was one of the worst pow wow's Sarnia has had in years. In past years of visiting I have felt most welcome in your community & pow wow but this year was far but the same. My family traveled quite a ways to be there this year as we have for many years and I was surprised at the changes I observed. Many of the judges in categories were inexperienced, as were the new people running it. The way I found that out was through talk as people tend to do at pow wows. I heard that that was a whole new committee, and boy did it show. Too many tie breakers, some backwards winners in categories, unfriendly staff, and the garbage & toilets (general cleanup) was a mess. The head judge and the tabulators families won in the competition. Haven't we learned that when family is judging/running things it's usually best to step aside so problems don't arise? Well word was spread early on Saturday of that that lil tid bit. And my goodness the word of the locals acting up and getting after pow wow visitors both at and after the pow wow is sickening, now that would be the worse thing to happen at a pow wow. I was deeply disappointed at your pow wow this year and hope that you people get back to doing whatever it was you had going good before.

Hi Nim!
I didn't know that the ride from Tashmoo to the pow wow grounds was that far. And for your information it wasn't a whole new committee only one person left and one new one joined. So it's too bad that our community members have to come on here to complain instead of joining the committee and volunteer their time. And I do recall that your drum has run into the same situation with your dad being the head drum judge sooooooooo. Isn't he the head judge at the dome again this year?? Hmm now what? But anyways it was fair and honest judging. And like I said we are only human. Mistakes happen and this isn't the first pow wow that had errors and it won't be the last.
As for what happens outside of the pow wow grounds that is beyond our control. Thanks to those who came. Pow Wow Committee. |

by the way, the pow wow was a little more to the bad side this year, all weekend i had to walk around to look for a garbage can, only to find ONE on the other side of the grounds. no wonder the garbage was all over the ground! i never even bothered tryin to use the washrooms! sick.
but as for the dancers, i do realize that you are apologizing on HERE, but how have you corrected things with the dancers? has anything even been done? i know a couple had already left before things were corrected and were sent off without their proper prize winnings. i wonder if the pow wow committee realizes that some of these people go to competeition pow wows as a sort of income and this weekend, people were sent home without the money they were supposed to be sent home with. as a pow wow committee, one would think that you guys would be making sure that all things were fair, and that as soon as any error was found that every effort would be made to fix things. i think these dancers would reconsider coming to this one next year. and what was up with the men's tie breaker for fancy? not EXACTLY what i would call the best song for them. :NoNo :36: |

cheap correction
Ever cheap way to apologize to the dancers. Do they have to read about it on p-w's.com or what? That is not how we were taught to deal w/ things in the p-w circle (on the net, sheesh). How could grand entry points be given to another dancer when the number takers were highlighting the numbers as they went by??? I noticed a big difference in this yearz p-w and definately will be going to St. Croix next year. Did youz even notice that no one asked about the winnerz in the other catagories, probably because they don't wanna hear about the rest of the backwards contest results.

This apology should be done at next years powwow and proper recognition given to the affected dancers. This forum is not the proper place.
I saw this happen at Walpole Island one year and it wasn't found out until later after the announcement of winners and everyone left. The head judge, Sugar Bear Shognosh, publicly announced the following year that the points were not added up correctly and he called up that person who should have placed - the prize money and recognition. This was good. This happened over 20 years ago and it's things like this that stick in a persons mind. It's not the mistake that someone remembers. It's the honorable deeds that were done to correct that mistake. |

Geez
Well, on behalf of the committee. I would just like to say that we did speak to the individuals. The problem here is that everyone is speculating and gossipping. We aren't just doing it on here as some of you are assuming. We spoke to Wes's family, as well as the other lady that was affected. So just leave it alone. It was done properly and explanations given. We also offered to show the tabulation forms. Some people would have just covered it up, but no we admitted the error and corrected it. So just leave it at that. We apologized what more do you want. Errors happen, we are only human. Your welcome, for giving an extra opportunity to win some cash on the spot $100 per category. Everyone is so quick to criticize instead of looking at the positives, and offer a helping hand. I'm sure other people who volunteer their time on pow wow committees know what I'm talking about.

Sorry to disappoint, but this is not Nim. I just wanted to air my concerns so that the committee can fix any problems you had. Feedback. Wouldn't you rather know than make the same mistakes next year? No need to jump all over people and accuse your pow wow visitors of stuff. I am offened now by your committee because I see my response was not taken seriously but rather you thought it to be someone else picking on you. You did mess up, you apologized but there was other obvious stuff wrong as people have posted. Take note, suck it up and move on. Not every pow wow is perfect and by no means was yours, so fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again. I agree with Kiwhenzi-a formal apology should be made next year. Just think you'll look that much better for apologizing in person rather than on the internet which many people do not have the luxury of having.
Also, PamPW i like the way you bolded "Your welcome, for giving an extra opportunity to win some cash on the spot $100 per category", to myself you write that as though you want a big thank you, well powwow visitors don't ask for extra money to be given. They take what they get (or don't get) and that's that. Your flyer did not specify what the "NOW" contests were so it's not like people came thinking that they had extra chances to win money. I came on here as an honest person airing my views as anyone has a right to do. Please do not get upset, it's our given right. My apologies to Nim as you seem to have gotten dragged in to this. If you have your personal doubts and thoughts about someone, make it aware to that person directly. Go knock on his door and tell him what ya think, seeing as you live in the same community. Although we all know that snakeeyes is NOT Nim....Unfortunately, Ojibaho doesn't! Frequent the site more often, you'll recognize who's who! It's a good site for fun and communication. Let's all try to keep it that way! |

I agree that the pw comittee should not take great offence to any comments on here. this site is where people air their opinions, good or bad, don't take the bad as that, but as a hint as to what you can improve for next year.
all in all, i enjoyed this pow wow, awesome weather. and i do agree with the suggestion to give the proper dancers some recognition at next year's pow wow. make things right, don't make 'em worse. aight!? |

lol @ speaking to the individuals who were affected by your mistake!!!!! You said you spoke to Wes's family and the other lady involved, but tell me this, does the other men's fancy dancer still think that he got first??? Did you straighten things out w/ him or did he have to read about it online? You know what don't even re-ply, everyone just forget about sarnia p-w til next year...........

What up Doe? Oh man what a mess. The only problem I had with the pw was the dance off. For one they made us dance with little boys tradish, and man the song was slow and boring. Two, neither me or sam heard them call the dance off so sam was like crazy late and all my stuff d**n near fell off because we were both rushed. I feel for that reason we should have been given another song. I know its my responsibilty to know whats going on, but under those circumstances we should of danced another song. No disrespect to tradish, but man u guys dance some slowwwww songs. How can fancy jam out to that. Ne way, congrats to sam and all the other winners. This weekend was crazy, i think im going to take some boxing lessons with Mike Tyson before I come back to this one to survive the weekend. Peace!

Hey!
I would just like to say first of all that the powwow wasn't all that bad. Yeah I will be honest and say that the grounds were a little dirty, but that happens sometimes. I had a good time all weekend visiting friends, and singing. And for all those who know me, I am this infamous Nim character. I just heard I was all over the internet so I had to check it out. I can't even remember the last time I posted on here. Anyhow just thought I'd post on here, so if anyone wants to say anything to me they know who to talk to. Thanks to my Auntie Berta (kakeeya) and Lindsey Smoke(ojiflava) for backin me up LOL. Oh yeah can't forget Dibz. whoever you are. To all who read these last few posts, disregard them, this is really a good powwow. Try to make it next year!
aho! AJP
