GAH!!!!!!!! Dang that's some rugged stuff goin on!!

Was she intoxicated? I thought she was just irate and totaly peeved. LMAO!

The supposedly "anonymous" person who donated money, I've found out, was a certain Council Delegate from Hogback.....I guess he's helping to just clear the air and get people to move on.

But, all that does is send out a message to the people that did this, that it's okay, that other people will be there to clean up their messes.

Any Cali. casino tribes present who could back up or negate the claims that they got money from a casino out there? How about in and around Phoenix?

It stands to reason, that you'd have to have some sort of legal documents, stating that you're a non-profit type of organization, or that you are SOMETHING other than a powwow committee, like something saying you're a company, to get money like this. I mean, look at GON....they get TONS of sponsorship.....but, they also make it VERY CLEAR, in legal terms and such, that they are a non-profit organization (supposedly)....and that ALL money raised, or donated, is going STRICTLY to the powwow. I also believe that all financial statements from GON are a matter of public record if you ask thru proper channels. Not only that, I do believe folks sign off on tax forms and such when they get their payouts.....firm documentation to their sponsors on WHO got WHAT......and WHO is to be taxed for that money. Individuals or companies who also provide services, also sign off on something I'm sure. I mean, any amount of money in excess of $1,000 I've gotten, I've had to fill out at least like a Form 1099 or something, and I've had to give my Soc. Security number....and I've had to claim that at tax time...if it was considered taxable income.

Did they have all that in place when they formulated the NDN Time Contest Powwow? No business in it's right mind, especially a casino........would just hand out money to total strangers, with no affiliation with a respected, legally founded organization. I mean.......that's like throwing money out on the interstate for anyone to gather!!! LOL!

Somethings rotten in Window Rock.....and it ain't that rank Chinese place near the Wells Fargo!! aye!!!

Well, this whole thing has certainly made for some interesting banter and commenting....and expression of opinions of the situation.

....again, if ya'll get paid........power to ya!! ...and power to the committee for pullin it off and gettin everyone paid properly.

Dang!! What if they used the Navajo Nation as a way to get money!! I mean, I remember workin for the tribe, you had access to ALL KINDS of OFFICIAL Tribal Stationary!!!! An unscrupulous person could make off with some of that and write letters asking for donations of ALL KINDS!!!!!!!!

It'd look legit...and you MIGHT be able to pull it off.

But shameful too. I hope it all gets straightened out but it really looks doubtful from everything that I've seen and read so far. If you don't get paid, just chalk it up to experience, that's what happens some times. I think I've been to about 3 so far. These people are all making bad names for themselves and their names will be remembered.
About the drunk lady.... She'll probably be mad when she sobers up and sees all this in the paper. But maybe she'll quit drinking and making a fool of herself, glad there were no pics posted, lol... ayyy.

K-mom (my nickname for you): Thank you for the text of the "letter" from the times. With all due respect, the bit on "bad moon rising" was a chuckler. However, in no way should the alledged actions of one individual be a reflection on the drum group and it's members. Hopefully, the drama from all this is considered by every powwow committee and adjustments are made to carefully plan for such contingencies for all future powwow events especially on Diné country.

I agree. Hope no thinks because Mrs. Whitehair wrote that, that Bad Moon Rising is a bad drum. Because they seem very respectful and had some mighty good sounds in Window Rock.

Kiyaanii mom!! thanks for faxing that over to me earlier!! OMG... danngg that is just wrong! Well i just hope that family learns from this mistake and is ashamed of what happened! Lets just all hope too that the child they will raise soon is raised with much more respect and dignity!

As for Shane Hughes...dang.. thats ruuugggeedd!! LMAo..hahaha.. I kind of see it as a way to get the attention off the committee too..to put all this on another spotlight i dunno..kinda seems dumb to me to write a letter like that and mention a reputable Southern Drum...with the number of friends that Shane has, she'll probably end up seeing the article written about her.. but remember its not about her...its about the committee doing false advertising!

btw..couldn't they get sued for that?? for false advertisement?? LOL

Did anyone ever see a flyer? I never did. Did they put $30,000 on it. Because if they did, that seems like fraud. But my concern is how this makes southwest, and mainly Navajo, powwows look bad............

Ta'neeszahnii Techno (sorry coun't think of a nickname) I have a suggestion. You mentioned that you might have to start requiring payment in full in advance. Maybe a better solution is to ask for a deposit on your services. That would be appropriate. And any committee that is serious about having the best sound system in the southwest :clap: would definetly be willing to pay a portion of your fee up front.

Just an idea.....

Hey thats a great idea! Its like how you rent a vehicle..they require a certain amount of deposit or credit available in order to take the rental of their lot.... i know this is probably way off the subject, but my mom is a rug weaver and that is her main source of income, so what she requires is a deposit in advance from the person requesting the navajo rug be made for them.... that way she knows they will buy the rug and she will even use that portion of what they gave her as a deposit to buy the wool or the string for her loom....that way if they back out..they are SOL lol... because the money was already spent on what they ordered so there is no way she can give a refund... ya know?? LOL...

We found that actually works better for her too, but when it comes to FAMILY

its a totally different story..they EXPECT special prices/payment plans and all that..which I think is a load of BS!!! okay..now i'm on my soap box!! LOL

buuutt yeah...what Kiyaanii mom suggested was a good idea!! :Thumbs..maybe write up some type of contract beforehand for the services that will be rendered...alot of services do that out there, from catering services to places that change your oil!! LOL
