Does anyone know who placed???? We left at 5:00 pm Sunday, and they still did not do Adults contest yet.

Sharmaray and her family were there.
Matt Sheka
Shayne Hughes
The Nobraid family
Brando Jack and his sister
The Etsitty family
A bunch of locals
Some other dancers I see around, but don't know their names.
Rocky Park came after Towoac.
THe horses
Indian Creek
Calling Eagle
IVA
Young bird had 5 singers, and still jammed. (It was funny watching them put up their shade. Finally someone had to jump up and direct traffic. :rofl2:)
Thunderhouse was northern host, because Bear Creek didn't come.
Bad Moon Rising came (southern host). They sounded goot.
Southern Outlaws

It was a pretty good turn out. Mostly dancers and not too many spectators.....

Damn it was hot..................

Some Drum contest winners....(haven't heard who won dance contest)

1st Southern - Youngbird
2nd - Southern Outlaws

1st Northern - Eagle Creek
2nd - The Horses

My sister called today to tell me the committee didn't have their contest money and gave everyone vouchers to go to Wells Fargo. So this morning at Wellsfargo there was a long line of dancers wanting to get paid. But as of late afternoon, no one was getting money.

Not good for powwows in this area.....

I heard the committe switched banks at the last minute, that's why they can't access the money, at least not for one week. They did however, I heard.........manage to come out of the bank with a bank statement, showing the amount in the account to anyone that was interested in looking to see that they ACTUALLY had the money.

It's nice to know they have the money.....but, dang.....what a way to get paid!! Does anyone notice a trend in the powwow world towards this? It seems to be something that's becoming more and more prevalent.

.....guess we gotta ask to see the money up front before we all contest ennit.

LOL

This is why Bear Creek did not make the trip. The committee called Friday saying they have the honorarium but by then it was too late. It would have been a 33 hour trip and they wouldn't have made it. Instead they just stayed home. I guess they would have still been standing around in front of Wells Fargo too eh...........

Stuff like this add's to the negative image that southwest powwows have. Used to live in OK but recently moved back to AZ. The rep. is SW powwows usually never have the money and the checks usually slap ya back in the face. anywayz, heard Rocky Park jammed.... representin the LOOP!! lol !!!

My sis called.....she, along with several other winners, are all standing/sitting outside the bank again today!!

LMAO!!

....I was like....."It's only money sis."

ayyyyye!!

I think it all started with the SPIRIT Powwow of 2002...ever since then, it's like the ghost of "no powwow prize money payouts" has been haunting the Southwest.

aye!!

What a place to hang out too!! Window Rock.....maybe tomorrow they can all pan handle from the Tribal Employee's....it's Tribal Payday for Navajoland!! LMAO!!!

Hell, I'd buy lunch for the Youngbird guys. I talked with Jason Smith for a bit on Sunday before heading home....he was pretty upbeat that they placed, and luckily, they're in the area and headed down to Hondah Powwow this weekend again to jam out.

Wonder if the 2nd Annual will be more organized than this years?

Anyone here compete? Place and still waiting for their payout? Ya'll goin' back next year?

Drum contest payout was $2,000 for first, then $1,000, then $500 for third.

Not bad for a small time, thrown together at the last minute deal.

I heard tons of complaints about the judges at this dance, how it was like all friends of the committee......but, heck, that's your atypical powwow politics...right!!! LOL

Congrats to the winners just the same.....and I hope ya'll get paid.
