Thank you to all who encouraged and honored Herbie on Sunday... it was very a very emotional time for our family...

I was the one sitting with Whitetail with one rambunctious 3 year old who thinks he should get first lead every single song. Herbie attempted to distract him by giving (well, allowing my son to steal) an umbrella hat. At one point, Herbie wanted it back and my son took off running. Well, when he saw Herbie being emotional, he turned to me and said "Mommy, is that boy crying because I stole his hat?" So he ran out there and gave him a hug. It was special.

I agree, very *** backwards! Doesn't seem to be a lot of coordination going on. I couldn't help but get mad that my little boy didn't get a chance to dance his last session. They cut out the Jr Boys Traditional altogether!

I think they meant well though, trying to get ppl out of the rain I guess. And show off the Smoke Dancers...

....I felt bad for those Womens Tradish contesting in the rain!

I Didnt Know They Were The Same Ppl That Ran Thunder Falls Pow-wow. They Arent Organized And They Seem As If They Dont Know What Theyre Doin. A Woman Fell During Her Contest IN THUNDER FALLS And The Arena Directer Just Stared At Her She Was Obviously Hurt Bcuz She Had A Hard Time Gettin Up. Seemed Sorta Disrespectful To That Woman. And They Didnt Have Judges Ready. My Sister Said That The Head Dance Judge Just Came Up To Her And Said "Do You Know How To Judge?" And The Dance Offs.... Oh My God The Dance Offs!!!!!! THEY REALLY NEED TO GET A NEW COMMITEE MAN.

yes would someone PLEASE forward to THAT committee that Barb Hemlock is not a pow wow person and doesn't know a thing about pow wow's? Honestly who goes up to people and asks "Do you know how to judge? Can you judge" while talking to you as if you're a little kid. They give themselves a horrible and I stress horrible rep by continuing to do this every year. Their first year of the Thunder Falls pow wow is already a laughing stock because that womans endless ties, calling up judges without asking them and the same things happened this past weekend (well not the ties). Has anyone noticed how there are less and less dancers every year at Salamanca. I'm with the rest of my fam and going to Wi next year! LOL

PW family.... the Salamanca Pow Wow is hosted by the North American Veteran's Association, based out of Niagara Falls/Buffalo. Jack Johnson is their leader (they should have a website). The Seneca Nation, in past years has made large monetary donations for the pow wow, but this year the new Seneca Nation Allegany Casino sponsored the Salamanca Pow Wow (which was news to a lot of tribal members)...Barbara Hemlock is an elected Surrogate Judge of the Seneca and the wife of one of the veteran organization members. As you all know, Leslie Hemlock Shiffert is her daughter. It is very unfortunate to hear that her conduct affects so many. Maybe if everyone takes a stand and lets Jack Johnson know how they're feeling or better yet...email the Seneca Nation President at: sni.org and voice your concerns-maybe they'll take a good look at it and change it up next year. It would be really sad to see Salamanca become a haven for 'wannabes'.
