hocak_girl is an unknown quantity at this point
anyone who thinks pow-wows are too comercial, please don't

stress, there are traditional (no contest) pow-wows out there

for your enjoyment!

As far as our culture goes, I think it depends on who you are. I do considor pow-wows a part of my culture. Where else can you go where alot of different tribes can come together to celebrate song and dance and socialize with one another, wether you compete or not. pow-wows are one of the only social gatherings where we natives can all get together and celebrate life regardless of our religion or tribe. pow-wows not only consist of competition dancing and singing, there are sometimes ceremonies and a time to honor our service men and women.

I worship a native religion, and honor my traditions and my place in my family, and am very proud that i attend pow-wows as a part of my culture, we all have different ways of defining our culture, i think.

But my point is, commercial or not, i enjoy pow-wows, especially the contest ones, when some of the best are out there tearing it up, making the spectators feel good with every step. thats what pow-wows are about, the sound of the drums which represent the heart of mother earth, watching the young girls sing along behind the drum, the dancers dancing to every beat... sorry to get so dramatic but i love my pow-wows Oh yeah, and the fry bread!

and those stands that sell those lite up sticks and other junk like toy guns and stuff, we really dont need that stuff, thats comercial!

Darker skin does not mean that your roots are deeper. One can have a university degree, but if that person does not use what was learned it is wasted. You can lay in the sun allday and turn jerky black...... Plant corn in dry earth . Don't water or feed the see. Will the roots reach down deep?
Some trides are darker than others. Notably the Aztec, Apache... Northern tribes tend to be lighter the farther north one goes. Please don't make rash statements.

I just want to know who will be the first powwow native to be endorsed by Nike, Reebok, Pepsi, or even Coke. Better yet which mega-corp will endorse powwows first? will it be Panasonic? Ford? Blue Bird Mills(J/k)?
And when will we get a giant screen for every big powwow, so everyone in the stands will see what is going on in the circle (arena). I only say this because of the rideculousely large canopies some natives set up around the arena, they are very hard to see over y'know.

As for the sponsors, we get them one by one. Once they stsrt comming on board, it will be like a grass-fire. All, big and small are fair game. When you are hungry you take what molther nature offers. You don't look for a trophy, right?
Big screens will come with the sponsors. Look at the Montreal Jazz festival. It lasts 2 weeks and in the core area, down town, there are at least 4 large sceens.
What is needed are cities that are accustomed to large gatherings, festivals and have large open air green spaces. Montreal has that next to the down town core. It has the mountain, resembling the foot-hills, and a large flat green space all in one area that is divided by a major avenue. That section of the avenue can be closed and used.
I'm glad to see you thinking. Spread the idea of an All Nation PowWow. With good hard work and unity it can be done. If we can get some committees to work on different aspects it would be great. ie Sponsorship, Dancing, Chanting, Drumming, logistics, travel,etc... I think that it will take at least one year tohold the first gathering of this kind. Aftwer that Its touching base with everone and bringing more people on board. We can also get government sponsorship. Dream a little.
