One of White Eagles crow hops is one of the first songs I have ever learned. Arlie is a very nice guy. I emailed him a few questions and got quick and courteous replies from him. He has a site called RainbowWalker.com. Lots of good info. And music for sale. Ill never forget him at Schemitzun 2 years ago. I walking thru the casino malls and there he was just sitting on a bench hanging out. Then later on I saw him just chillin in the stands watching the dancers. Everyone sitting around him probably didnt know that there was a world class singer right next to them.

Can't say enough good about Arlie so I'll throw in a word. We were friends waaaay back at Fort Lewis College. You will not come across many people like him. He's a good man and his drum the WHITE EAGLE SINGERS reflects that. He will always have my respect.
Never heard of Snake Island. |

I heard Snake Island at quite a few powwows where they were host and guest drums, they sound pretty good and I am surprised that I haven't seen them at Schemitzun in the original category. They have their own style of singing and don't try to copy other groups like so many others do.

Snake Island is a good original style group from Ontario, canada, they originated from the Otonabee singers and are well taught in the proper drum ettiquettes. Their lead singers, John Snake, John Snake Jr. and Mark Lavallee have been around the circuit since the late 70's and they are good singers with alot of respect for singing appropriate songs. John and Mark were one of the original organizers of Skydome powwow in Toronto and they now have a group of young singers who specialize in original style songs. Mark's four sons also sing on this drum, so I would classify them as a family drum. Good songs, Good people.

The Snake Island Singers are an "Original" style drum group that come from various parts of Ontario. Young guys as well as a couple old school singers who love to sing and have fun.
We have a website if you want to check it out. http://homepages.go.com/~gnebik/index.html Our lead singer is Meegwans Snake from Sarnia First Nation, Ontario P.S. We are not all Ojibway, There are also a couple Oneida's. ha,ha,LOL [This message has been edited by Ariesvirtue (edited November 23, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Ariesvirtue (edited November 23, 2000).] |

Snake Island Are a good bunch of guys. They are now starting to establish a style of their own,and the respones they get from dancers when they sing show they know how to bring a spirit of happiness into the pow wow circle. I also enjoy listening to White Eagle and have a great amount of respect for the influence they have had on pow wow music.

The Snake Island Singers are a young group of guys who love to pow wow. White Eagle is the same way. I don't think that anyone should make differences between the two groups as they both love to sing, and make the people feel good. Snake Island is up and coming group, and White Eagle has been around but still influence many young groups with their songs. Keep singin boys!
