Last midwest powwow I made it to was Wakpala, SD my mom's home town on the Standing Rock rez when I was only 12 (uh, that was about 1980-ish). Porcupine sang it!
Other than that, I can only make it to Pacific Northwest powwows regularly, where some of my fave's are: * WHITE RIVER * LONESOME CREEK * GRANDPA NOAH'S BOYS * REDSTONE * WINDY POINT |

I hear Grandpa Noah's Boys at about half the powwows I go to in western Washington. "Grandpa Noah" (I forgot what his last name is) is a respected elder who still sings and drums from his wheelchair. He gave a speech during Grand Entry at a powwow comemmorating Native graduates at Sumner High School in Sumner, WA about three weeks ago. I don't remember which Tribe he is from, but his family is a local group. There appear are at least three generations visible around that drum at any one time!

That is so cool - thanks for sharing, Wakalapi - he seems like a very respected man to carry on such a legacy.
