A canopy is advised with plenty of drinks. The powwow arena is between two sandstone walls and the ground is sandy but they wet it down good so it is packed. No, it is not dust and it don't get muddy when it gets wet. Think of the sand that you find in sand dunes. The sandstone formation is from the Lukachukai formation that formed as part of the Permian sandstones beneath the surface of the Mesozoic strata . As long as you stay inside the arena, the sound is not distorted by the echoes from the two side walls. However, once you step out, you can hear the resounding echoes. Camping is allowed, but you need a permit. The Main Arena has the rodeo and the night performances. The Amphitheater is located between the Main Arena and the Powwow Arena, but a sandstone wall separates these two arenas so there is little sound cross-over from one event to another. |
