Wind Eagle and Standing Horse you have both done an outstanding job throught the competetion!! Not only have you represented yourselves and your nations proudly, you have both shown humility and brotherhood toward each other and the other competitors. You both have great songs, sung from the heart. And finally you both make it very hard to choose just one!!!! LOL That's a good thing I think
Best of luck to both of you

response to southernwaterbird, and to all Native people reading this..... as you know by now my name is Shane Webster, and rep the Wind Eagle singers, and as you also know by now Wind Eagle reps the Menominee Nation. The Menominee we are speaking in this song is "OMAE:QNO:MENE:WAK PITI:TKAEHNAN NI"MI:KAN, PO"N SAE:KESEHNAN, MAWANI: O:MUS A:YI:TUWAQ, STAE:W O:NA:NI:KOSEHTUWAQ" (OH-MAH-NO-MEN-AY-WOK PE-TE-KEN-NUN NEE-MEE-KAN, PON SAH-KES-SAH-NAN, MAH-WAH-NEE OH-MAS EYE-YE-TO-WAT STAH OH-NAH-NEE-KOH-SEH-TO-WAT) English translation would sound something like this. "All Wild Rice People, come in, dance, don't be afraid, were all here to have fun"
I was at a pow-wow and I could see that our people were a little afraid to go out into the arena to dance. I went to some of the people and asked why they would not dance, and the majority of them said they were too shy, and didn't want to look like a fool. As funny as that sounds, that is the very reason some of our people will not dance. That is what inspired me to compose this song. Again with the help of my brother Ron Corn Jr. The reason I chose to submit this song, even though it is on the Tribe's Blue Scout c.d., is because it's calling all the people of the Wild Rice to come out and dance. Were letting them know that it's ok to enjoy themselves no matter if they are a champion dancer, or a novice trying to keep the beat, experienced, AND beginners are all having a good time. It also tells of who we are. The ojibwe people gave us the name "Menominee" because of our stapel food "Wild Rice" we would say Omae:qno:mene: which means "we are given the rice". Anyway my good friend is the lead singer of the Tribe, and he is proud to sing my songs as I am proud to hear them on their c.d.s. As was said before that is how we honor each other, and that is Respect in it's truest form. Wind Eagle has chosen to rep our people in this final round, however it is a song for all the people to dance to, so everyone enjoys themselves at the pow-wow. I made this song for my people, because I always am, and will aways be proud to shout Omae:qno:mene: Nita:wem Apae:nini:!!! (I am Menominee forever!!!!) good ear again. and you obviously know good music. So hope this song of ours moves you as it was meant to, and REMEMBER........Come out and dance! Do not be afraid, were all here to have fun!!!! nahaw wae:wae:non. |
