Suggestions for Pow Wow Idol

I'd like to start a discussion on how to improve Pow Wow Idol.

We still have several rounds to go and I plan on doing this again in the future.

And I've had a few users tell me the voting is confusing. So please tell me how this can be made better and easier.

Thanks

Paul,

I think the biggest problem is that we are getting new users or those who rarely come on line and they don't know how to do things when it comes to the contest. So, I don't know if it's anything we're doing...but rather what folks are/are not doing.

As far as the contest is concerned...have you thought about having evaluators to periodically post about the music? I think I had mentioned this before. I would allow people who know nothing about singing an opportunity to learn something. And quite possibly, have (say 3 evaluators) to split up the songs for contest and post. For example...evaluator A listens to 5 songs/groups on Monday and listen to another 5 on another day and the last 5 on the 3rd day. All the same time, evaluators B & C are doing the same thing but with another pool of groups. Afterwards, they offer 3 different opinions (which may overlap) to help generate interest amongst more of our members and even educate more of our new members.

I hope that is at least clear as mud!

Hi Paul, I'm kinda of the opinion that this is dragging out too long. Two weeks of voting followed by a week of downtime. I'd like to see either a shorter voting period or the elimination of the downtime. The downtime elimination is my perferred as that way there is always something going on in Powwow Idol and it's harder to forget that there is a contest taking place. Actually I just want to know who's going to win! :-)

Also I think that it's rediculous that you have to post the "This is not a vote" messages all the time. I'd post one at the top of each drum group thread call it good. If drums are gonna bring folks onto the site to vote, they need to also tell them what to do.

I agree that this contest is long! But the drums wanted the extra week. They want some time after voting to record the song for the next round. I thought at the beginning that drums might get together and record several rounds at one time. But that's not what is happening. They are recording each round.

Next time we may do shorter voting rounds-1 week to vote, 1 week off.

You have no idea how many emails I'm getting about people having problems voting! And several of them said they believed that posting is a vote. So I'm trying my best to help everyone. But I do believe as you both have said that these problems are coming from new members. New members that were pointed here by drums. But I'm trying to treat everyone the same and welcome them to the site. Maybe some of these will become active members here.

Maybe joining the competition can require submitting enough songs to cover each round, so that you have all the songs needed, and you can do a weekly voting period, and go right into the next round without waiting. I think this would be a more fair way of judging the drums talent.

Another thing; why is membership required to vote? I understand we want more members, but there are alot of older people who are now interested in this competition who dont want to join up. When Standing Horse made it to Round 9, the Rapid City Journal did a story (yaay! Good job Grant!), and my family asked how they could vote, but alot of them didnt cause they didnt have the resources to do the voting. I think an open voting system would provide Powwows.com with alot of attention and awareness. I can see the problems figuring this one out, but its just a suggestion!

I'm considering several different options on the voting!

I would like to see the pow wow idol contestants post one (new) video during the contest. It would be nice to see them as a group singing. Anyway…peace!

I think Powwow Idol should be divided into two groups, one northern plains and one southern plains. Also, it would be great if a Texas drum applied, they should be able to sing. If not, create a third group of southwestern/southeastern/northeastern drum groups.
