Our First Round of contest here with Pow Wow Idol is dedicated to the service of our own, Donnye Hayes who is currently serving our country in the Middle East. The third song here on our thread is a song that was composed and dedicated to him on October 22, 2006 at the Accohonnac Tribal Pow Wow in Maryland.
Song has been shared by all...not only here with Pow Wow Idol friends and family, but also in the recording as it was sang and recorded at a Center Drum event. We certainly hope you all enjoy our music. Biwa! Pilahuk Jason

I can send them to anyone who might need them. Dunno if me sending them to you would work any better than you listening to them here on pw.com (i.e. being able to open them).

Round 2: 9/11 Song
I'd like to take a minute to talk about our song selection for Round 2. We call this song 9/11.
I remember when it happened. I was a college student at East Carolina University and that day I had not turned on the television all morning. As I walked towards Central Campus from the Hill, I noticed a weird calm about everything. I sat down after class in one of the dinners to have lunch with one of the Deans/Chancelors. He called my attention to the screen. I had not seen it...I had no idea what I was about to witness. As the day progressed and I observed all the video feeds of the fire, the building and he who orchestrated the attacks, I couldn't help but to feel a sense of calm that no one else would feel that day. I took it all in. About 5 years later, those thoughts come back to me. I was told to remember it...remember it all. About a year after those initial thoughts resurfaced, the song you have here for Round 2 was composed. The song says remember it (konspewa)...all those images (whether its first hand or from some video feed) of the fires and chaos...and even those feelings we all internalized. It was Osama "he struck me" (kohinamihiwa). He struck us all on that day! "He's gone,...he's running!" (opewa hindawa). When the song says "he's gone...he's running", we as a Nation of People have not forgotten what he has done to us. We not only remember how he struck us...we remember that he is still running. We as a people, will pull together and take care of our own. So, if you have not listened to this song yet...and even if you have, we hope that it instills a sense of pride amongst you. This song was not composed for just a select few...but all to recognize and remember.
