I need help with bustles
I have not started dancing yet, and i am trying to get all the information i can before i do. Is it ok to have a bustle made out of Red Tail Hawk wing feathers, and if so, is it possible to make one out of these feathers, or would it be too small?

Either way you'll probrably need to extend them with dowel rods. You'll definately need more than a set of wings. p.m. me if you want. lostsalt

I've Seen Allot Of Hawk Bustles And They Look Ok.
You Do Have To Extend The Feathers. Here Is The Way I Do It. I Use Skewers They Bend They Don't Snap, Good Glue Like Super Glue And Electrical Tape. The Trick Is To Make The New Quills All The Same Length. The Size Of The Feather Not Including The Quill Will Dictate The Overall Length. First I Usually Cut The Quill All The Same Size To Make Them All Uniformed. Put The Glue In The Hollow Quill And Glue The Skewer In Place. If You Use Super Glue You Have To Work Fast. After I Get The Skewers Glued In From The Base Of The Feather Measure Them All To The Same Length. You Need A Loop At The End Of The Stick I Use Ribbon So The Humidity Here In Oklahoma Don't Rot It. Then I Wrap Tape Over The Quill Then Down The Whole Stick Then Over The Loop |

If you want to use them, you gotta get the enrollment taken care of. So says Uncle Sam!

well ive received two red tailed hawk tail feathers from a close native freind, i only use them for smudging. would it be ok to use goose feathers in a bustle since i have no way of getting a permit for protected birds?
