I was wondering...what is the meaning behind or the significance of the term "49"? I have heard it used in songs, and was wondering what it means?

Thank you for suggesting the search. I didn't find it in here, but I did a Google search and found that a 49 is a sort of party after a powwow. Hanging out around a car, music playing, possibly drinking(?), and general hanging around. However, the term 49 refers to an old story of when 50 warriors went to battle and only 49 returned. Then they would sing and dance in honor of their fallen brother. Does this sound correct? What you have shared is a "49 Myth." (no truth whatsoever).

I have done some asking around, in the areas where the 49 is still done, and nobody knows who any of those 50 warriors are.


There are also other 49 myths.
