Rez pow-wows are more "community/family" oriented. I like someone mentioned earlier, no time limits, and you get to have an easy going time at a pow-wow. There are the cons to the rez pow-wow, but when you get down to it, I think I would rather be at a rez pow-wow, than a city pow-wow because you dont' get the feeling of being rushed. The noise ordinance issue is a bunch of BS too. On the rez the only noise ordinance is to pow-wow as strong and loud as you can so the next town can hear it! LOL

Living in almost central Phoenix, I like the city pow wows cause it's a quick pow wow fix! That said, I'm finding I enjoy the rez pow wows more. More people, more vendors, less tourists (but isn't he...), better food. As big as the ASU pow wow is, I'd much rather hang at Ft. Mcdowell. One of these days, I want to make one of the Navajo Nation Fair pow wows. People do seem more relaxed at the rez pow wows. I like being able to set up my chair, chompin' on a roast mutton sandwich, watchin' the fancy shawl dancers, stompin' my foot, enjoyin' the fresh air.... aaahhhhh..... can't always get all those things going at city pow wows. Close, but not always.

city powwows usually have comfortable sleeping accomodations, so I spend more money. RES powwows has better eats and more of it. There's nothing like going from camp to camp to visit and eat

Is there really an advantage to either place u pow-wow? Rez pow-wows, have their local heros, who don't necessarily keep beat, or is the best dancer on their rez, but still manage to beat someone who really can dance. City pow-wow's keep in mind that people work, or have to drive long distance, and end the dance early. But, leave out the real traditional honorings. Rez pow-wow's will keep going til daybreak, or whenever they feel like it, i.e. MT, SD pow-wows. I wish SD pow-wow's would catch on to the WI. or Casino pow-wow's and END early at a reasonable hour. So, whether it's REZ or CITY, be glad dancers are coming to your pow-wow and keeping the dances ALIVE!.
