i think who determines the order of dancers and the like is determined byt the individual pow wow. some pow wows its the committee who determines the program. i have been to a few and got a printed program on the first day of the pow wow.,

The program is not the holy grail to go by. It's like the three blind mice leading the gullible by the hand. Use your instinct and you'll see that printed paper is not always right.

I would like to add some 2 cents worth.

I think that the AD is the product of the Whipman. The MC and the AD must work well toghether in order for the someness of the dance. The committees select their MC and AD for their abilities and knowledge. Some people are just natural at the AD/Whipman. They have the forsight and the know-how of powwow protocol.

The AD will own the arena so to speak. this is his job, the MC keeps the people interested and the agenda on course through the AD. The AD keeps the arena clean, clear, and safe/secure. If he is also the whipman he keeps the dancers dancing, etc.. if this is a contest he helps to keep the peace and order of the dancers/dances. It is the Headsingers job to keep the songs and who sings. he is the director of the music if you will, again this is why the committee ask this person to help in this duty. The AD helps the headsinger with drinks, blanket money, auctioning drum shawls/blankets, etcetcetc. The AD should be the one to ask about any specials request. He will assist in introducing the family to the headsinger for a song if necessary, not all people know these things. The AD should just help everyone in any manor necessary to help the committee have a smooth dance.

There is a lot more to this duty but I think that is enough for now. Just remember that flexability is the key to any duty.
