Northeast people.
I'm new to the pow wows of out here in the west coast, are most of the people that come to these from the mid-west and west coast? I have seen very few Northeast dancers at any of the pow wows, even back home in northern new york state. So i guess one of my questions would be is anyone else from the northeast?
Also another question, I have yet to dance at a pow wow here, would it be ok to do so, i mean in the inter-tribe, and open dances? I guess i'm just afraid to be the stand out guy in the land of grass dancers.

I hope you decide to dance. We are new to the West also. I don't dance, but our 10 yr. old daughter is planning to dance out here in Idaho. She is Menominee/Stockbridge Munsee plus a little German and Irish. She dances in traditional Menominee ribbonwork (in a family pattern) so I don't know if she'll stick out or not but her Koko (grandmother) who brought her into dancing encourages her to dance whenever she can.

Eastern Blanket Dancer
|
go ahead and dance. i have been to pow wows in the western states. i was the only eastern blanket dancer. that didn't deter me one bit. i had a lot of people come to me before and after intertribals and open dances, and because i was the only one in my style, ask me about what style was all about and my outfit and the like. i was scared to death before, then as i danced i got into the groove of things.
