maybe they want to have a different outfit and they only have their own or the lost it in all their stuff and cant find it so they barrow sum 1 elses i dunno anywayz yeaaaaaaaa

Maybe there is at the cleaners or on the bottom of the dirty laundry pile mixed in with all the dirty underwear and socks. Or maybe they gain to much weight and now there outfits don't fit so they got to borrow the bigger outfits. I dunno either I'm justborred and thought I'd help give some answers.

I know lots of folks that borrow outfits to try their hand at a dance style they do not usually dance.

Others that found out about a dance in an area they are visiting but were not planning on powwowing at. They run into a friend and that friends offers a second set of clothes to them so they can dance.

The other thing I see a lot is folks borrowing for an 'all around' competion. Most folks do not have a set for each style or if they do they seldom travel with all of them.

My outfit is very special to me. All my beadwork was made by my wife. All my feathers were given to me. Most of my stuff was put together by my wife and I. We worked hard at it. I just say no, my outfit is meant for me. Most people in my area respect this now and don't bother asking.

I like my friends. If I lent them something that they returned it damaged or they dropped "just one" of my eagle feathers, it wouldn't be the same. They'd still be my friend but it just wouldn't be the same. You know what I mean?

Besides, I'd have to give the eagle feathers away if someone else dropped them.

I value my friends.

Depends on who is borrowing and why.
I have a few trunks full of clothes. Mens, womens etc. (we been dancing a while, 6 or 7 straight dance suites, cloth dresses ) Some are 100 years old. all of my folks stuff. So I often dress my neices and nephews and thier kids. But in this family they all understand What those things are, It is a big deal when we dress them in these things, We eat , tell stories, who owned what. Really the clothes are the families and they take care of them, thats why we still have them. They know some of these clothes have medicine with them so If Anyone hocked something well... they best move up to Canada.

We (meaning my family) don't lend. It's just simply an unspoken rule. Each individual outfit made for that person has meaning and sentiment to it. It belongs to that specific individual. When I make mine or my daughters' outfits, there is design on it which represents either their clan or their ndn name, or some significant meaning which is meant for them. Their outfits are always "blessed" (if you will) and we believe they are recognized by their guides once that blessing has taken place.

If something is lent out to a good family friend then we'll keep them at our side at all times until the powwow is over. And if the person places in the contest we don't expect any monetary compensation. Just the fact that we were able to assist one of our own and knowing that we'll never turn our back makes it worthwhile.

I've never let anyone outside of fam borrow my stuff...in fact now that I cant dance I tell em too sometimes...lol...If u wanna get technical, then I DO let my frenz, but the ones that have used anything of mine...are like fam. I enjoy seein my stuff out there on the floor again. But yeah...like b4...sometime its just for specials and such. :)
