I'm Daddy's little princess so I have always worn a crown!!

For real though, the way things are these days in p.w. world is, do what you want wear what you want. So like Nike says ~ "Just Do It" :Thumbs

For the northern women being a princess of a committee entitles them the right to wear a crown. If a northern woman dancer is competing in a contest then the crown has to be removed. For the southern women being a buckskin or cloth dancer a crown is usually worn to compliment their regalia. Removal of crown is not required for the southern woman dancers during competition.

I'd also like to add, if in doubt, ask the Powwow yer at, or ask the local elders.

From what I have gathered, each committee has their own rules about what can and cannot be worn at a powwow.

:D good one.

I received a crown from my grand-daughter who placed it on my head at a local restaurant. Does that make me "Burger King"?

Then I bow to the greater wisdom and apologize for the misleading advice.

Question

How long have crowns been in existance for the Indians. The Queen of England would have thrown her self on a beaded crown if they were around during that period.

Why don't men wear crowns?

It used to be this way for southern dancers as well. I am from the old school, and will require my girls to do the same when it is there turn to represent our people. My girls want crowns but as I said i'm from the old school and they have not earned the right yet. Being a past princess I can only speak for myself, when I was princess and competed, I took off my banner and crown to compete, also if I am part of the head staff I do not compete out of respect.
