Indian Language 101

_____

We should all do our part in saving our languages.

It would be great and rewarding if the people on Powwows.com would exchange some basic tribal language with each other.

For instance:

How do you say, "a greeting?" (hello).

How do you say, "until we meet or see each other again?" (good bye).

How do you say, the equivalent of "thank you?"

What does your tribe call itself in your language and what does it mean?

Language.

Grettings - Tempunayetv
Hello - Hencsa (or hensci)
Thanks - Mvto
See you later- Cencehecetvs

As far as our tribal name goes, we're made up of more than a dozen bands/tribal towns, that came from the Mvskoke (Creeks). My Band is Rewahle, pronounced Thlewahle. Seminole is Semvnole. The older folks also referred to themselves, as a whole, as Ekvnvfvskvlke - Sharp land people; the Florida peninsula.

In another thread about "cats", we say pose (pou-see), and kate (kah-tee).

Burberrilish:

As I told Pare, "Thanks for the correction. Sometimes I can't even spell in English!" You're right on the spelling. Like I said, it was all off the top of my head. I don't know how to spell in Indian. I just try and come close.
