You have to go to at least one store. The dollar tree!! They have every thing.
How about....hair brushes, rubber bands, gel, hair spray, scarves, rolls of duck tape, mirrors, small/big plastic baskets, halls, pepsi or coke, sunflower seeds, travel cases, packs of tooth brushes, soap, pillows, blankets, large plastic bowls, sewing kits, fabric, hanks of beads, blank tapes, plastic boxes, hand cleaner, lotion....I dont know. I'm just saying things off the top of my head. Either things I've gotten or things you need at the pow-wow. |

A few years back I went to the skydome powwow and got a pizza cutter in a giveaway. I thought it was a different type of gift but I used it for a few years before it eventually broke. :Chatter :Chatter
When my son had his first kill ceremony for his first deer, we gave away all of his hunting gear including his rifle and clothes that he wore that day. The deer meat was all given away too as well as traditional foods liked dried roots and canned berries, salmon etc. Lots of hunting and camping gear was given to the men present. I know it's a different type of giveaway but thought I would throw that in there. |

Giveaway Items
The best giveaways in my opinion are those that put some thought into the gift. You should give things that apply to that person like camping gear for a camper or something for their dance style. The way it is packaged makes a big difference as well.
I received a paper fan with the date and a picture etc and that was welcome on a hot day. Little kids and some adults like flashlights. Although it is cliche it is truly the thought that counts.

Give items from your tribe or home. Us calis like the beading from the plains. Those from cali throw down the basketery items. Those from southwest throw down the turqoise. Cacth my drift.

giveaway items
I hit Walmarts dollar a yard fabric table and bought up all kinds of material for shawls. Also cut and bundled squares of fabric for tobacco ties with the ties. Packages of paper and crayons for the kids. Also bought water guns for the teens. I was at a powwow last summer where after the powwow was over the teens where having a water fight to cool off. Have fun with it . Use your imagination.;)

Storm, thank you for your reply. When i said innovative I was refering to along side of pendeltons, shawls, fabric, dance clothes. Things to throw out into the arena, that might be just a little different, something silly, cute, funny, to go along with those items. We are definately not trying to take away from what her responsibilities as head woman has been in the past and for this one. Thanks again to everyone who gave fun and great ideas we really appreciate the time you took to answer this thread..:)

my friend who was an up n' comin' jingle dancer was given a sewing machine. she thought that was the best give away item she's ever gotten 'cuz it encouraged her to start makin' her own outfits.
indian tanned hides homeade (huckleberry) jam canned fish r canned meat the best give away item i ever got was a couple hanks of really really old beads. back in the day those old beads were lined w/ gold to make them shiny... I really treasure them...and it encouraged me to start beading. I was only 5 too!:) |

I'm a little late on this one but I had a giveaway not long ago and I went to see the Amish people to check out their quilts. They didn't have exactly what I was looking for but she did make me 10 travel size star quilts. I don't know if you have Amish people where you live but they will hand sew every stitch on their blankets and they are FULL of detail. They were only $50.00 each for a hand sewn star quilt. Everybody loved them!!! I think I gave her card to at least a dozen people that weekend.
