I talked to my friend and gave him a head up about this.
It was a bit hard to bring it up but shyt man it had to be done I can't sit here and see my friend and his family go out like that.
He understood and didn't take it wrong so he going to talk to his daughter and leave it up to her.
Luagh my *** off on... is she white. :Chatter No she aint white but she just dont know a freaking thing about powwow that is why it hell of surprised me when her dad told me she was going to be head girl.
They didn't pull her name out of a hat ..they pulled straws :Chatter not even close to what WhoMe replied unfort.
But yea I know the ONLY reason she was picked was because a family member was on the committee other wise she would not even of been brought up.

being head dancer is an honor ...its good she was asked but from what im getting what yar saying it sounds like she has little respect for being head dancer...i think that she shouldnt have been asked if knows lil about powwows...with being head dancer yar suppose to know more than the other dancers..what would happen if she declined the position and asked another person to take her place in stead of her?wouldnt that be disrespectful in a way?-becca

you must tell her and her family your feelings on this! its terribly disrespectful to everyone not to mention our ancestors. this position is an honor and a privilege and as such should be earned. if it is given it will not be honored or respected. and she is much to young. no this doesnt sound like a ndn powwow to me at all. cougie

Unfortunately the direction that many Dances and Dancers are going is towards prize money $$ and pay for head positions$$$. This is a sad thing to witness, but we see it more and more lately. Head Staff in recent years is being chosen more often than not, because they are Commitee members friends or family.:(
You did right by talking to your friend and hopefully he explained to his daughter the seriousnous and honor involved, along with the responsability, of being a Head Lady.
Please let us know what this young lady decides to do, and how the Dancr turns out.
