What the F@#@ are Food Stamps

I watched a tv show last night and they mentioned that in the USA the land that has everything bigger and better than Canada, has of all things something called food stamps. What the heck are they, do you like go out and buy food and get free stamps for using as postage or do you need to buy stamps to get food,,, help me here this we don't have in Canada and furthermore they said that more people in the USA than Canada's entire population recieve these stamps every year. They are kidding right??? What is this about??? Help me out on this one folks.... I am now confused and I aint a Blonde!:(

It is part of the welfare program, people who live under the poverty limits can be eligible for food stamps. A family of say 3 will get a certain amount of food stamps for the month. Its just like money, you go to the store and purchase food and pay for it with your stamps. It 's good for food items only but in the cities and places around the reservation some greedy store owners will sell booze and cigs too, is a big problem, food stamp fraud. Hope that helps. I noticed your bitterness between the States and Canada, whats up with that?

Sorry about the bitterness it is only that when ever we in Canada hear about USA it is always that we are little bro and we are the 51st state of the union and we have nothing to offer.

Then come all the tarrifs for our lumber and all. That is why I get a little bitter. Speaking of lumber why do you guys want to match the price of yours to ours, ( the prices of our wood is forced by taxes and duties to the point where it isn't woth sending to you) let your trees live, buy ours, build homes for Habitat For Humanity and that would help you guys. I am not saying this in a bad way but think of this, if you have a way of helping some one to build homes cheaper than with your own materials why not buy and save. You could have better housing for your people and we could benefit as well instead of having to close our lumber mills.

Same for our James bay Hydro facility, we sell it to you all the way down to Virginia and then we buy it back at a higher cost.

Our butter gets sold and rebought the same way.
All of our eggs, meat goes the same route.
Heck potatoes that came from the USA and got planted and grown in Canada can't be sold in the USA. Mcains Rules about diseased candian potatoes. Go figure.

The same goes for textiles,in the states how many mills were closed in the last few years just because the USA now promised to buy African cotton. Their pay per year is about a $100.00 US for the average cotton farmer. This globalization strategy is hurting countries far and wide.

So yes we buy, we buy at Walmart, of again USA and they put our chains under. The products they sell have a lot of made in China stamped on them. So who suffers we both do, our productons get slaughtered and profit and unemployment goes up in both countries.

Fooders! yup love them....ain't no shame in my game ...I get hem ..cuz we are too dam poor....no fraud here. But now they give you an ATM like card wich can be used to buy food...it's keeps track of you ballance. Each month you get an allotment based on your family size and income. YOu gots to be 200% below the poverty level to get hem. But there is lots of fraud..which sucks for those of us who really need them.

They have eliminated the actual food stamps now. They give you a card like a ATM card or credit card. It has all the welfare information that you are entitled to and you just use it like a credit card until your benefits are exhausted.

With out being disrespectful may I ask what this means financially? How much does 200% under poverty mean, what do you get a month on welfare???
What does a single person get?
What does a single mommy get?
What does a couple get?
What do you get on disability?

I am trying so hard to understand your system!

Dood it all depends how many kids you gots. How much money you made before you got on federal help where you live and cost of livin my mah was on this that was kewl though I didn't care long as I had some eats in front a me . I would sneak in to her purse and take a couple dollahs (stamps) to run and get me some tater chips it was kewl til I got caught and she whipped me goot with her sandle.

yup thats how my Mah was "aint no shame in some help" she would say kewl. how long go did they swith to cards ? when mom was on em I was about 12 i think.

well food stamps is basiclly money from the gov...they give it to you everymonth at the begining of the month depends how your income is and they transfer it into a card sort of like a atm (but you only buy food with the card and nothing eles)

I heard that there is a lot of ause on these cards ,,,is it true? And how come people are still getting these? I still am curious about this, what is the low level of poverty where you recive this, I asked earlier but no one seems to be able to tell me the answers I am seeking.... totally in the dark with this. Forgive me for asking but I don't have the answers and am wanting to learn.

Yes, food stamps/ebt are for people with very low income. But of course, people who are on ENT/Food Stamps can go out and get a good education and then find a good paying job!
