Yes some people abuse the system, but not everyone. I know that the EBT card can be used for both food and for cash assistance, but I'm not sure if they can use the same card. If a family is over income and they take in one of their child or adolescent relatives, they can receive cash assistance. It's a very small amount of money but it helps the family. People without children can still get Foodstamp assistance if they meet the low income guidelines and/or have some type of disability. I used to work with children and used to take care of the foster families or relatives that took children into their homes. :)

I was looking thru my old junk and I found an actual paper food stamp! When I was going to school and then started working for pennies, I was getting them. The most I ever got was $450 for 6 kids.

Now my niece gets a bunch and we help each other out. I don't know if you'd call it fraud or what. Before payday when I'm down and out and starvin(!:p) she'll get me some groceries, then when I get paid I'll pay her back. Then she can buy other necessities like toliet paper and gas.

I remember when I stayed in Montana long time ago, they'd give you little plastic coins for change with food stamps. We'd find them laying in the parking lots and would buy chips and stuff.:Chatter

Oh, here's a pic. I have a $1. It's the pink ones. The green ones are $10, I think. They used to come in little booklets and you'd tear them out when you went to pay for your stuff.

btw, EBT stands for Electronic Benefit Transfer. If you get WIC in town, they give you an EBT card too, only instead of a dollar amount it has so much pounds of cheese, so many gallons of milk, etc...

Oh and the going rate is $10 for 20 in food stamps.:Chatter JUST TEASING:p jks

Thank you very much wyo_rose that was helpful but it doesn't look like canadian money, it does look like canadian tire coupons!
So this goes for food or clothing? I am to believe that it was traded for just about anything for half of the fac value,, could that be??

Canadian Tire coupons!! You guys are lucky! :Chatter

And they're only for FOOD! But when someone commits FRAUD and either buys them food, or gives them their card and PIN number then you pay back 1/2 in cash. But that's all very hush hush.

How do you qualify for Canadian tires?

Canadian Tire is a big chain store like wal mart but it started as automotive and then branched out to outdoor and home supplies. The opposite of walmart for the idea start. When you go there to shop or buy gas at their gas bar you get 5 cents on the buck as a bonus to buy more in the store. You can get anything there even junk food. When you get gas you get so much for 20 liters then 30 and so forth. Then you get a bonus coupon where you can get 4, 7 or 10 times the coupons for gas. There you need a minimum fill of 20 liters for it to work.

Well, if you collect enough of the 5, 10, 25, 50 cent or 1 & 2 dollar coupons you ould basically buy your next set of tires. I am saving for a partial payment on my next barbeque.
