I've thought about it, especially finding that some ojibwe did it in the past.
I like to honor my ancestors as much as possible, especially at powwows. RRE

Do you apply paint for powwows?
Yes
The Ponca Hethuska Dancers who wish it (personal preference), will put a line of red powder paint (in the old days this would have been red clay mixed with bear grease...aka "vermillion") at the outside corner of each eye going straight back for between 1 and 2 inches in length. In the old days this "witch paint" was said to protect the wearer from being "witched", or having bad medicine put on them.

When our people paint like alot of cali we use red to depict the power of the sun. Cinnebar was used as the traditional paint but now with the rare find of it we just use paint. The woman paint there chin or forhead or eyes but us guys paint our upper body. My gramps gave me the sun design tht was given to him.
