And the environment.
One of the things that amazed me when I was looking at the cost of re-roofing a house, long story short - it costs about the same amount to use/install solar shingles as it does the regular ones. Most states require power companies are to supply you with a meter that will run backwards (so you don't need to use batteries to store the power-it feeds out to the grid if you make more than you use, vice versa if you don't make enough power) and you can get federal as well as state grants/taxbreaks (depending on your state) . So why isn't everybody doing this? Why doesn't the gov't just say "OK no more regular roofing shingles." ? They said "OK no more lead in the gasoline" in the 80's.
