No lieniency, because there is a big difference between an ordinary Muslim, and a fundamentalist Muslim. The Iranian government, though not necessarilly it's people is a fundamentalist government. you cannot reason with terrorism, that's not how they work.

I'm all for trying diplomacy first. If all else fails, what we should have done back during the hostage crisis. A phone call to the Ayatollah (if he is too busy praying to take the call, I'm sure an assistant will relay the message): It takes _____ minutes for our bombers to get from _______ to Tehran. That's your deadline. If you miss it, Tehran will be a pile of smoldering rubble 5 minutes later, along with every nuclear facility in the country.

But then, what do I know? I'd put the Pahlavis back on the throne!

Unfortunetly with fundamentalists, diplomacy never works, not really, because their only loyalty is to Allah, no matter what. They will sacrifice their own country and their own family for Allah. They will put nothing above that. So any talk is never heard unless it's total obediance to Allah. But the rest of them who are just ordinary people are great, I have some really close friends who are Muslim. But as far as the Iranian government, there's no reasoning with it..

Although it saddens me to say, I actually agree with you, Cherocayuga. I went to college with a lot of Muslims, from all over the Muslim world, and most of them were lovely people; most of their governments...another story. Even though I don't believe that diplomacy with the Ayatollahs will accomplish anything, I want to be sure that we have extended our hand for a peaceful solution before the bombs start and so many innocent people are killed.

RDNKJ, you're absolutely right, I see what you mean. Because that way we know we've done what we should do first. One of my best friends lives there. He was studying in Malaysia, for years, and then went back home just last year. He's such a genuinely sweet guy... But he gets frustrated with his government alot. He's also one of the most open minded Muslims I know. Some are, some aren't. But I know fellow Christians that are the same way lol. But I can see what you're saying and I agree.
