Broken Dreams

So full of dreams, where did they go?
So full of hope, but I don't know
How time stole them all away from me.

I used to lie awake in my bed
Thoughts of the future danced in my head,
So much time, so many possibilities.

But the years have come and gone.
The dreams have died one by one.
All I can do, is sit and shake my head.

The things I would do, the woman I'd be
Lost in the shadows, past history.
Now I lie empty as I cry upon my bed.

I thought I'd have it all some day.
Be the one that folks would say,
"She's the kind of girl that I want to be."

Surrounded by family and friends,
A sense of peace that never ends
Fulfillment, success and security.

Instead of my family, I'm alone.
My friends have left me one by one.
Sadness, disappointment my only company.

Each day I wake with a sense of dread.
I don't want to get up out of bed.
Today seems almost more than I can bear.

If I could find just one little thing
To bring me some joy, to give my faith wings
Maybe then, I'd have reilef from my despair.

Maybe my dreams will awaken again
Give me some hope to escape the mundane
Motivate me to rise above mediocrity.

Maybe tonight, maybe today,
I'll look in the mirror and I'll say.
"I'm the woman I always dreamed that I would be."
