Bones Piles of Bones

Posted by:

Bones lay scattered all about,
Bleached pure white,
They glow in the moonlight,
Skulls, leg bones vertebrae,
Bones of this and that,
In a mountainous stack,
A pile that represents shame,
Created in the white mans name,
It’s a symbol of starvation,
A monument to stupidity,
Of the hard times endured by the Indian,
A loss of their game,
Created hunger pain,
To many buffalo slain,
A multitude turned into miniscule,
Whole sale destruction was the deliberate aim,
Eliminate the buffalo,
Completely destroy this animal of self,
This shadow of the Indian,
The symbol of spiritual power,
The symbol of medicine power,
Then the Indian will fall to his knees,
Then the white man will have complete control,
If the buffalo vanish, from the prairie
Then the Indian will disappear from here,
The white mans destruction,
Was callous and cruel,
Cattle Barons conquered and killed,
No mercy shown,
They killed at will,
The yellow iron was the Indian curse,
The miners arrived they blasted, the mountains,
They polluted the rivers,
They did what they did with no thought just selfish greed,
The soldiers were in hot pursuit, to deliver death,
The buffalo hunters left a trail of carnage
Indian and buffalo are on the run,
Greed riding on horse back, to make sure that they die,
The color green could be seen, for green is the color of greed,
Black is the day the color of death,
The color of blue,
Matched the color of the mood,
The color of red marked the end of the day,
You may ask yourself why,
Must they die?
Who led the army of consumption?
Who devoured in such a ravenous way,
An addiction that could not be satisfied,
Could not be ratified,
Nor justified,
War criminals dressed in blue,
Were decorated for what they do,
Commendations pinned on chests,
Woman and children was the trophy’s sort,
Warrior’s scalps bounty’s paid,
For a cowards raid,
The soldier’s soles bought,
The Indians fought,
The blood of the Indian and the buffalo, drenched the plains,
As our mother wept,
As souls slept.
My Vision my Dream Osceola Birdman Waters
