Need Help replacing new Husbands Stolen Regalia
I am new to this site and would appreciate any suggestions or help in replacing my husbands stolen regalia. We have been married a little over a year and it was an ex girlfriend that stole it but we were never able to get it back. He is Lakota and Cherokee. He follows the Lakota side of his family and has danced Northern Traditional up until his regalia was stolen. And he has not been in the dance circle since because he feels he should not dance until he has all new regalia done. I have made him a ribbon shirt but he longs to have his dance regalia replaced. But it has been difficult to try to do this with our finances as they are. So if anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful and honored for the help. Thank you so much

dmoccasin,
What more details do you need. There are no pictures of him in his regalia or of his regalia. He had a Buckskin War shirt and full buckskin pants. The shirt had beadwork and horse hair fringe. The pants had no fringe. He had a porky roach that was dyed Red, Yellow, Black and White. It was about 20 - 22 inches long.and he had a Traditional Breastplate that had Red, Yellow, Black and White beads and bone hairpipes. That is all I can remember of what he told me about it for now if you have any questions Please ask. Thank You |

what DM is trying to say is this: do you have any pictures you could post? details like where you are from, his name if he does not mind, anything you can think of really. if you two are involved in the Indian community then chances are someone on here may know you all, or might know of it you never know. It is better you know the person who stole it, unless she has already destroyed it.
sorry to your husband, ones attatchment to ones outfit is monumental really. you are connected, your spirit dances with all the other spirit when you dance, I think so when that is lost to you in it hurts. I am also sorry that being new to this site you were not treated better with the question you posed, that is not what this site is intended to be. Paul started this as a way for our people to gather and communicate share stories, teach, learn, mourn, and laugh. I do not know if you are native or not, at this point i do not care you posed a question from a good place. Hopefully there will be others stopping by who give better advise then me, there is a lot of knowledge and life lessons on here. oh and one more thing, I am not usualy this long winded, but in the last few days I have seen a lot of people being rude and condencending(sp) and this was just the last straw. dm I think it is only right to share the knowledge you have in a native heart, not short and rude, this person was just looking for help and stated the she was knew to the site, walk the path my friend. alright tangin(sp) is done have a great day everyone. lol sorry.

Lost Regalia-apology
I am so sorry that my comments were taken in this manner. I am vertically challenged though and not stupid. In response to your question of what to do in this situation. My preference is to seek advice from a higher source and when a situation happens in this manner, it is my experience that it occurs as a result of jealousy. If it is through a situation of jealousy, the remedy will come through consultations with medicine people and or reputable sources.
I only wish you the best in resolving or seeing this situation to a speedy end. D |

I did not mean to come across the wrong way I apoligize. We have no pictures of him in his regalia or of just the regalia I wish we did. His Name is Gordon Nolen. The woman that stole his regalia is a white woman and is very mean and spiteful. So I have a feeling she either destroyed it all or sold it off. I did not take offense to what was said in any way. I just needed more clarifacation on what was said. I was told by elders to make him new regalia but our funds are so very tight that I fear I will not be able to get it repaced by the coming warm season. That is when we start going to PowWows around here when it warms up unless we can find any close by to us.
We are living in Alabama right now and he is from Oklahoma. And once I learn to post a picture on here I will post a pic of the two of us taken on our wedding day. I truly appreciate any help and responses I have recieved and will recieve. Thank You again. |

CanteLake, there are plenty of places on-line that sell everything you would need to make the things your husband need. There are also several options that can help speed up the process of replacing the items, depending on your skills doing craftwork.
Check out Nocbay.com or crazycrow.com for supplies. If you are looking for real hairpipe instead of plastic, check out hideandfur.com. You can also keep checking ebay as well as the trading post on this site. Doing things yourself is always going to be cheaper than buying them, and they will mean more to you and your husband. Not to knock anyone's work. But you don't charge yourself for the time it takes to complete a project. There are some things which you aren't capable of making yourself and the money you save on the simple stuff you can use for other things. Hope this helps you. As Super said there is plenty of knowledge on this site as well as plenty of people willing to help you along the way if you run into trouble.
