Hey.
Well the first advice i would give you, if you understand the culture, is to apply for an eagle from the eagle repository. Google it, you can get an application. The second thing would be to pick up the book, Northern Traditional Dancer by C. Scott Evans.( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/096...lance&n=283155 ) It's a great book, with a lot of help. A lot of young dancers buy this book, and they think they need to make everything in that book which is incorrect. Make what you feel is right, or what you would like. The essential clothes would be: an appron, side drops, a vest, a bustle, breastplate, knee bands or leggings, deer toes or bells, mocs, and then a headdress (usually a roach...). As for the roach, i give the same advice to everyone who seeks it, buy a really good one the first time. There is no point in buying a shoty one, and end up having to replace it in a few years or even months. I would suggest buying it from powwowbum49. He is a user on this forum. Send him an email for his pricelist: www.powwowbum@aol.com. I got mine from him, and im very pleased!! They are really good qualty. If you don't have the funds, SAVE. Third thing, make sure you can dance. Anything else?

In addition to redthunder's suggestion, I also recommend talking to other dancer's at powwows. if asked politely, they love to talk about their regalia and how they made it. Heck I recently got some excellent advice at the last powwow I went to b/c i was having bustle problems with the new bustle.
