Dance Advise for an FBI

FBI

That's Flat Broke Indian.

Is it ok to piece together regalia as you go and wear it, as long as it looks accecptable (ie-no breechcloth w/o leggins, etc. 'cause no one wants to see that... Ever..) or is it better to put it all togehter then dance?

Just my $.02 worth. there are ways to take "shortcuts" that look good while saving your money to get the good stuff. Going to thrift stores for wool material is one example. I got a pair of old navy bell bottoms that I was able to make aprons, sidedrops, and trailers fro abour $2.50 ladies wool coats are another source of material, More later.

ok back. other tricks include using canvas deck shoes for mocs and painting the designs on them. This can also be done for the side drops; using canvas and painting it.
Another option is using ribbon to make the designs on your drops and aprons

As for shirts, watch walmart's dollar a yard section. my sis-in-law does theater costuming, found out when they get bulk shipments and goes there early to see the new stuff. I am doing the same thing and buy materails as I see it. I currently have enuff stuff fot 5 shirts, and I spend no more than $3 for the material. I've gotten liquid lame, sequined, etc ( usually goign $5 or more /yard)at $1/yd.

for the roach you can A) make it yourself or B) check ebay. If you make it yourself it will take time.

One guy I know says you can make a decent outfit to meet the "10 feet rule" for under a hundred bucks. He has a few of these that he lets people use, saving the really good, and simply beautiful regalia for himself. Hope this helps.

You can save alot of money by making all your items yourself; either that or marry someone who does.

the only roach i ever made was a 12'' fiber one that paid $5 bucks for plus the red dye. It took 3 months for me to make. It didn't look to good, wore it 2 times,m and saved my money.

Yep. I can't remember the guy's name, but he's from OK, a Hethuska Society member, and has written extensively. His personal regalia is awesome looking: fully beaded mocs and belt, awesome ribbonwork, otter, etc. Give me some time and I can get his name.

I make all my own outfits with the exception of roaches. I'll leave that to powwowbum49. You are better off in the long run on saving up the money and ordering on that will last generations. The rest of it takes time and patience. You can't expect to make a kick@zz outfit overnight. Fabric and ribbon isn't that expensive, unless you are using silk. Buckskin and beads can get spendy, but it will last longer. If you need help don't be afraid to ask for tips in the craft section or here

I have a colleague who went back to India to get married. His wife wasn't in the country two days before she discovered THE MALL. Poor guy is still trying to figure out why he needs drapes and tableclothes just because he is married, LOL.

This is a proven scientific fact; married people are generally happier and healthier too. Don't you watch the news. I'm the regalia maker in my family; my hubby got a kick-arse ribbon shirt for Christmas this year!
