I always love the buckskin fringe, however, I also love the way ribbon looks and moves on a grass dancer. I think that a meshing of the two would be perfect for most tradish dancers (for instance tufts of ribbon mixed in with buckskin).
I think the real issue with doing all ribbon is -- when you dance, will it move the way you want it to move. You are not spinning and bouncing like a grass/fancy dancer. Again this is the question you have to ask yourself. My only advice: experiment with width and length on test aprons or side-tabs. And post lots of pics! |

I've noticed ribbon is starting to become popular the last few years. Most of what I'm seeing is flat shawl fringe, Like the fancy shaw dancer's use. I think the added color is what is attracting guys to use it on their outfits.

How do you like the thicker ribbon? Have you thought about using several sizes and mixing them in? I know a fair number of grass dancers who like the really thin stuff.
Also, the ribbon definitely gets you the color matching for your fringe, but have you given any thought to adding some white ribbon as a contrast to your background? Looking good! |

redT, The more ribbons the better! They're lighter weight and much cheaper than brain tanned smoked hides. Florescent ribbon is the best. It makes you stand out. Oh and rhinestones! Sew them into the ribbon at different intervals to make them glimmer as you dance. Also... add a round "mirror disk" available at Hobby Lobby to the end of each ribbon. They will shine each time the light hits them. and, and, make sure you enter "Contemporary" traditional. "They'res nothing traditional about substituting ribbon for buckskin."
