Fluff Dance

I wasn't sure where to post this thread. Here goes. a freind of mine from Ohio who is a traditional dancer was telling me about a dance called the Fluff dance. the whole idea is retrieve a fluff or a feather from the ground. there is a twist, you can't use your hands to pcik up the fluff, only your mouth. this may go by other names.

has anyone else heard of this??

Are you sure your friend didn't venture into a strip joint by mistake?

Yeah, I've heard of this and seen it done a few times, but never by traditional dancers. Don't know if its a true dance or some made-up junk, but it was entertaining to watch.

Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and nothing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

Feather pull

Luvstraightdancrs is right
It’s called a feather pull. It was invented by Gus McDonald the first World Champion Fancy War Dancer also the man credited for creating fancy. He created the feather pull as another contest for the fancy dancers. It’s popularity changes with time and location most of the old fancy dancers know of the dance.

I'm with singerdad on this one! Sounds like I've been going to the wrong powwows! I've never won that kind of prize!! haha!

Eitherway, I've only heard white folks talk about it as something the do a lot. That's not to say it doesn't exist, I'm just saying that I think a lot of what people have heard about it is totally out of it original context.

Yea Iheard of this dance and even done it when I was yong.
I'm 36 and I can remember doing that dance when I was five.
I can not recall the name of this dance, I only remember it was to test yong dancers agility. It might be called Calumet.

Calumet is a french word for Pipe. the Dance called Calumet is to pay honor to the pipe. at certian times during the song dancers would get their bodies into a pipe shape.

Question jaded dancer

hey yall whats good? im interested in knowing what are your views on pow-wow judging. For instance i believe the head judge should not only select judges who hopefully are honest but should uphold the rules and regulations set by the host of the pow-wow. I also think in the event of a tie the head judge should decide and not select new judges.
