WhoMe had a thread exactly like this in Men's Fancy, so I thought it'd be cool to have one for men's traditional. For me it'd be Steve Charging Eagle.

Here, in Thunder Bay and North-western Ontario...the name Nathan Moses comes to mind. He's four months my junior, however he has been dancing Traditional for a little over 30 years. He inspired me to start dancing again...this is my first full year as a traditional dancer.

Jordon Williams/WhiteEye, watched the boy grow up to become a champion dancer. Last saw him dance a couple of years a go at the SkyDome Powow in Toronto. Haven't seen him around lately, Hey Jordon are you out there? Still dancing I hope!

Singerdad, I'm glad you picked Steve Charging Eagle... At the National Powwow, before each adult contest on Saturday Evening, August 13, 2005, we are having individuals interpret the earliest form of each dance category that is possible! It is part of our theme "Origins of the Powwow." We asked Steve if he would honor us and do this interpretation of the Men's Traditional Dance. Unfortunately he is unable to honor us due to his age. But we are using his suggestion as his replacement. This is being done under Steve's advice. With this said, "I think the National Powwow will be one of the most educational powwows that has ever taken place!"

Doesnt' have anything to do with dancing, it's my dad~RIP, he was a very traditional man; he fished, hunted, worked all his life in various jobs, knew different dialects of our language here in the Pacific NorthWest, war bonnet dancer, honorable, religious, long braids, good sense of humor, fought for our Treaty Rights for 16 years, now that's traditional! {I admire George Meninick's traditional dancing around here though, amongst others}

Since we are talking about traditional dancing, then dancing is important, I would have to agree with Steve ChargingEagle. He is one of the best of the best and has danced this style for years and is very knowledgeable of his tribal culture and language. I have alot of respect for him and his knowledge.
Too bad he cannot attend the DC powwow, that would have been worth recording for the future. |

I heard Tim Eashappie give a speech at Morongo a couple of years ago. He said traditional dancing varied from tribe to tribe, based on what was handed down. And that dancing was an expression of yourself, so in a way all dancing was good. The important part was to continue to give it to future generations. He got a good round of applause for that.
